Belt Install

I'm a Doo boy tryin to figure out these stupid Yamaha 2ndaries. Whats the trick to installing/removing belts.

After some fighting I did get it off..now, how does it go back on.

Doo and Team made this easy cheesey, do Japanese have extra arms and legs and super strength or...what am I clearly missing??? lol

with the clutch still on the sled, push in and twist the helix clockwise to open the secondary with one hand and hip. pop the belt out with the other.

in a high pressure spring install/removal, use an end wrench and twist the wrench like you are tightening it (clockwise), and push in with hand and hip.

really easy once you get the hang of it, no tools needed, none to break or damage the clutch. ski

I'll have to give this a shot, I've been trying the push in on helix and clockwise the rear sheave... I'm not sure if the Shockwave helix makes it a bit tougher or not.. Will go wrestle some later.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Heres what I do.....take a big A$$ flat blade scew driver and insert it between the bolt that holds the secondary on and the helix....push in and it opens up enough to slide the belt in a good inch....works like a charm....especially with the heavy springs we use on the turbo sleds.

do the newest team clutches on the doo's still use that stupid threaded "L" tool?

I have it on my prox 800 and hate it! It works good if you have the tool, loose it and you better have someone lift the back of the sled so you can rotate and roll the belt onto the secondary. No getting the sheeves open on those clutches!

Just use your foot and push on the helix toward the fuel tank (in and back) opening the sheeves and viola! To put on just get the belt in the primary and around the helix of the secondary, put the belt into the top of the sheeves, then do the foot thing opening up the secondary and push the belt into the sheeves to hold it open then simply wrap the belt around the clutch. Make sure before you take off (it will be slightly shifted out) take the belt between the clutches on the top and bottom jiggle it up and down while rotating it backwards, it will bring the sheeves back in toward eachother.

in the 10+ years I've had Doos, I don't think I've ever been with out the tool...nor spent more than 2 mins to remove/reinstall a belt.. Nor have sore hands and fingers from doing so. :P

i'll just have to get tough then! Guess I'll have to get a feel for it.

Two people is the ticket. One to turn the sheave backwards and one to slide the belt out and back on. I can do it by myself, just not worth it. :) And yes, the shockwave (and the spring) makes it more difficult.

yea usually you should have your tool kit on you at all times and not having the tool shouldn't be a issue on the doos or polaris's and theres usually enough people around most times if you dont have it im sure would be happy to lend it out in the mtns to change your belt...

Guys try my way with the screwdriver....I can change the belt by myself in 30 seconds with the heaviest cat secondary spring.....try it.
