Belt Dust In Motor Rt 1000

Hey Guys, I put timbersled air box kit on the RT last year and they have allowed belt dust to get in the motor. Warranty has just expired last month. My question is how bad is belt dust for the motor? Is there any way for it to go in crankcase? And how to get it out without tearing motor out? The motor still rips but with the cost of fixin RT motors so high should I tear it out and break it down and take a looksie. I dont want to spend 6k on a new motor for a sled worth 5k. Sled has 3k miles and no issues except the leaky front cooler.
Thanks for the input guys this is such a great site.

id tear it down, clean it all up and put in the bikeman 1100 kit. after 3000 miles your probably ready for a top end anyways and the brp parts are almost as much as the bb kit.

im gonna run those outerwears jb, plus a floating secondary should keep the dust down even more.

Belt Dust in motor= sand in the gas:eek:

If gas/oil and air gets in the crankcase---so will the belt dust.

It is kinda of like a rubber based w/kevlar valve grinding compound going thru the motor.

Thanx guys, I think preventative rebuild is the way to go as well much cheaper that way with all the part still intact. Wasn't someone puttin steel sleeves in like my ol 98 x prob has 10k miles still has all orig. parts tore top end off to take a look and still had factory hone marks in cylinders. What a great sled still runnin today.

Thanx, JB

Just a re-ring with all the gaskets is gonna cost you about $400. Dealer price for 1 ring 'bout $60, you need 4. Not sure if a little belt dust is worth that. Seal off the leaky air box/s and ride it. Getting the cylenders off and on are a pain unless you pull the whole motor. JMHO, since I just did mine. 3400 miles and lots of N2O, just thought it could use fresh rings & gaskets. Sled runs just the same.

Yea I getting steel sleeves put in my cylinders, should get it back this week,

there are options

There are aftermarket pistons out now for the 1 liter

Wiseco - and SPT are much cheaper, even with HPC or SWAIN coatings I have been watching for a PRO-X part number too, when I see it I will post it.

no quality issues whatsoever, hundreds of rebuilds under my hat

Just MHO

I can't believe that the pods work better than an air box. Especially on deep powder days. It seems like a lot of heat off the motor. I know you are saving some weight. Does it run better?
