Belt drive kit for 11 and 12's

One question for C3.....

Can a guy get your belt drive with a shorter belt if you did not want to run the tensioner????? This is the only benefit I can see by going with a retrofit from
Polaris (if they make one available). I'd rather have a shorter belt and no tensioner.

The next shortest belt barely fits around the shafts. I am always limited in design by the stock common belt sizes that are available. Having no tensioner is great for the one ratio but with so many different gear ratios used in selds today it takes away all f the ratio options.

C3 you must mean the top sprocket cannot be smaller than 3" in dia? As a 3"r is a 6" dia? Too bad the driveshaft wasn't relocated down another .5 to .75" for tunnel clearance to really help with the resistance? Could this be done as an option for somone that really wanted it all?

Thanks Mike

Yes you are right 3" dia not radius. it can actually go a little smaller but this is a good rule of thumb for safe handling of the belt.
I am just designing a new tensioner plate to work with the Avid kit right now.

thanks for the info C-3, my source had said standard sizing from what he was told..complicates life with them doing a custon pitch.....any chance you will make different pulleys for the stock poo setup so a guy could change gearing if he wanted too?(say taking 1 tooth off the top and adding 1 tooth on the lower to use the same belt)

Can this be put on a Switchback 136" sled as well?

Thanks,

Got a ride in Friday at the snowies with the new C3 belt drive to break it in before next season. Definitely a noticeable improvement. My buddies proclimb hcr usually walked me pretty easily up a climb when I ran the chaincase on my pro. I rode both sleds multiple times throughout the day and the pro ran with the stronger motor of the hcr neck for neck, maybe even a bit more snappy on the bottom end. A lot less rolling resistance coming back down a steep hill.

Just barely. About the same depth compared to July of last year. Luckily they opened hwy 130 already so we could park right up top by Lake Marie.

Yes this is in the works and should have something by September

Yes but to accommodate the larger brakes on the Rush sleds the rotor moves out a little farther than on the RMK's so stock exhaust will not work and only after market system that don't come beside the chaincase will. I am trying to work with after market exhaust and turbo companies to get the SyncroDrive kits to fit with as many as them as possible.

guess I have to go check it out? spoke with Gary at the Place, he laughed at me !! LOL

It's definitely ride-able this upcoming weekend. Out of lake Marie lot is just that one climb pretty much. Much more ride-able terrain if you take out about 1/2mi further on either side of Lake Marie lot.

Got the sled all tore apart doing a track change and of course the belt drive! Next year!!

OK... C3...First, kudos to you for stepping up to the plate on this... looking fwd to 2013 and new products in the fall.

Will you have a booth in any of the western sled shows this fall?

A sincere question I've wanted to ask...

Will you come out with a kit for the 2013's that already have a Belt drive to run different gearing combo's... essentially a kit with different top and bottom sprocket options, a longer belt and a simple/sturdy adjuster that will allow changes to the ratio??

Even better, simple top/bottom/belt combos in some "plus-ratio" and "minus ratio" that will allow 2013 Pro RMK owners to not have to run a tensioner but still change the ratio?

Given the size of the stock bottom sprocket and the proximity to the pan on the 2013 Pro... do you think it will be possible to squeeze in a larger sprocket... or will you need to adjust using a smaller top sprocket?

From what I know/hear... the belt drives don't really have belt breakage problems...but rather, the teeth on the belts get "stripped" off when smaller sprockets are used and there are less teeth on the belt engaged with the sprocket...

What are your thoughts on lay-out and target cost for this?

As an Idea... what do you charge these service parts in your current SkiDoo kits?
  1. Replacement belt
  2. Replancment bottom sprocket
  3. Replacement top sprocket
  4. Tensioner pulley

Lastly... can you tell me if are using the Gates carbon belts in the same width as Polaris (same/bigger/smaller???)

For the guys who want to re-gear the 2013, sorry re-pulley, which way are most people going? Up or down? How much?

Here are a few pics of the C-3 belt drive installed in Avid's extended chain case. It is hard to work on my sled in May and June. I'll probably install it in July-August. I want to change out my chain case bearings first. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for posting that Robbie.

BTW, my dad said to tell you that he's hoping to meet up with one of his old Gamma Phi brothers for a ride some day.

I am working on this but the only 11mm pitch belt available is the stock one that comes with the sled so options are limited to using the stock belt.

Even better, simple top/bottom/belt combos in some "plus-ratio" and "minus ratio" that will allow 2013 Pro RMK owners to not have to run a tensioner but still change the ratio? The belt usually only fits perfect for one combination. If you drop one tooth on top and add one on the bottom your circumference length is not exactly the same.

Given the size of the stock bottom sprocket and the proximity to the pan on the 2013 Pro... do you think it will be possible to squeeze in a larger sprocket... or will you need to adjust using a smaller top sprocket? Probably not. Use smallet top gears to get lower ration and then a combination of a smalleer bottom and larger top gears to get higher flat lander ratios.

From what I know/hear... the belt drives don't really have belt breakage problems...but rather, the teeth on the belts get "stripped" off when smaller sprockets are used and there are less teeth on the belt engaged with the sprocket... We have never had any teeth strip. Even up to almost 400 HP and 340 Ft-Lb torque we have not ever striped a tooth but at that power we have broken belts.

What are your thoughts on lay-out and target cost for this? My target would be under $500 for top gear and tensioner assembly.

As an Idea... what do you charge these service parts in your current SkiDoo kits?
  1. Replacement belt N/A for 2013
  2. Replancment bottom sprocket Will depend on tooling but about $300 curently
  3. Replacement top sprocket Will depend on tooling but about $130 curently
  4. Tensioner pulley Aproximatly $350

Lastly... can you tell me if are using the Gates carbon belts in the same width as Polaris (same/bigger/smaller???) Yes Gates Carbon in the same width

Thanks Robbie I will be shipping production Avid kit in about two weeks.
