Belt Deflection Adjustment

This may be a stupid question, but here goes!! Is there not a more simple way to measure belt deflection than with a strait edge and a tape measure? I know that 11/4 is the goal, but can't a guy just measure the amount of belt sticking out of the secondary to get this right? Like 1/8" on top of secondary or something?! If there's another way post it up.

That's about as simple as you can get. Takes less than a minute to check...under 5 min to adjust, if needed.

belt deflection

Try tightening belt till track turns when you lift back of sled and doesnt creep when on ground.

Don't worry about the actual measurement. The best performance and belt life comes with the tightest belt you can run without squeel or creep. You will get a feel for it. 8 out of 10 guys I see run too loose. The track stand idea above is good or you can simply eyeball the deflection to get it close and then tighten it until it creeps or begins to squeel, then back it off just a hair. Make your adjustment, have someone hold up the back of the sled, run it and spin the track a few revolutions to ensure the secondary is closed all the way and the belt works its way up and let it come to idle. If the track just stops or is just barely rolling over at idle (creep) you are spot on. If the track is turning fast you are to tight.

Make sure you have an allen wrench and a wrench for the lock nut with you when you ride so you can make an adjustment if you get it a little to tight. Only take about 20 seconds to adjust.
