I picked up a new belt for our 2005 Rev 800 from the dealer, told him the stock 166 belt is great.
Get home and find out the belt he sold me is a 383. What is that and what difference is there?
Machine runs perfect with the 166 so not sure I want to switch.

Belt

Thanks for the info. Anyone else have experience with this 383 belt on the 2005 REV?

Quotes BRP literature
mx z and renegade 800 e-tec/ptek
What's new:
800 e-tec/ptec 800 E tec/P tek sea level drive

Why:
p/n 417300391 is now standard on and recommended for all 800 e-tec/ ptek model listed used at or near sea level. it has excellent wear characteristics and extended life in the correct applications.

This belt uses the identical PBO compressive compound and tensile strength cords as the 417300377 with a special high temperature coating on the chords to reduce cord pop out. Not recommended for Summit applications or at high altitude as it may cause shift RPM variations in extreme conditions.

One of the tests is that the belt has to last 200 miles on a summit sled. The 383 nor 391 didn't last 200 miles in testing. If it lasts for you, then bully for you. :face-icon-small-hap I praise your courage for counting on a belt that may schhhhnapp in the middle of a chute.

I only got 30 miles out of a 383 and the cordes started to come apart in the side. dealer looked at it and said cut the cords and melt them with a lighter. they weren't going to warranty it. so now I run the xp belt the 377. I talked to the carlilsle ultimax belts booth at the boise snowshow and they said to try there xs803 belt and they would gaurantee it for a year for no defectcs so gona try one of those this year.

383 is garbage. 288 is a good belt from what ive heard. starting on 1 this year and like it already.

XS803

Used that belt last season, worst explosion of a belt we ever had. Literally hundreds of pieces, not impressed.

I too ran the xs803 and it lasted 3 rides. Warrantied it since they will and it's now my back up for my bak up belt. I usually get a season out of a 166.

I never got to do the comparison I meant to on the other thread. However, the 383 worked without fault for the two days I had the new E-tecs out.
I had a few people try to xs803 and have since switched back after dismal results.
I ran the 383 on my 06 for the remainder of last season and had zero problems. I also refreshed and changed my clutching at the same time.
I have multiple belts for this machine now, a Orange 166, a white 166, a couple 288's and the 383. I haven't compared each to the other as only the white 166's are new.
If I do notice a difference, I will definately post, however.....from last season testing.....not much of a difference on my '06.
DISCLAIMER: Break-in procedure is critical with drivebelts. Hot Soapy Water, air dry, break-in on the trail(usually coming off the mtn I'll put a new belt on to break-in)

i wore out 2 383's last year, thought it was my clutching, but it was the belt. they start out pretty good, but fade and ware out quick. couple rides into the 383 and would have cords fraying
