Beer-Muscled Bone-Heads on Jet Skis, McCall, ID

Read this tonight in our local paper. Pretty frustrating to read when we're so generalized and easily applies to all motorized recreational users and when they are close to hundreds of others lakes that these "stink machines" are not allowed on!

You can find this in the current issue of the Star News of McCall Idaho in the "Letter to the Editor" section:

Wisconsin visitor objects to ‘noise and stink machines’ on lake

To the Editor:

My wife and I recently visited McCall. We were there on a visit to an old friend and to explore a part of the country we had never seen. McCall is a wonderful city in a wonderful place and should be very proud of itself for the fine job done on the city waterfront areas, etc.

We also enjoyed just sitting at the beach in the state park and visiting with our friends. It is clear that the citizens of McCall truly appreciate and enjoy the wonderful area in which they live.

But, there is a fly in the ointment. As part of our stay we rented a canoe and went up river at the north end of Payette Lake. We got there fairly early and had the river to ourselves for quite a while. We saw lots of wildlife and the air had the wonderful smell of conifers. It was truly enjoyable.

Imagine our surprise, shock, and disgust when we came back down to the mouth of the river and were assaulted by the stink and noise of jet skis. Why in the world are those nitwit noise and stink machines allowed on this end of the lake? It isn’t like there isn’t enough room on the lower end of the lake for the beer muscled bone heads who find this useless activity to their liking.

While the people of McCall seem to truly enjoy the wonderful area they live in I am not convinced that they truly appreciate what they have. I come from a tourist area along the waters of Lake Michigan and the bay of Green Bay and I can tell you that if these nitwits are allowed to continue to stink up the north end of Payette Lake your reputation as a desirable destination for travel will suffer. I have seen it happen in Wisconsin.

Face it, these noisy stink machines are little more than gasoline powered toys for a class of essentially spoiled brats. I saw people of all ages and abilities on the river. Some of it was almost comical but give the folks credit for at least using their own muscle power and going slow enough to see what was going on. What, really, can you say to the credit of the beer-muscled bone-heads on jet skis?

Think it over McCall. You can make up the tourist revenue by working on better service in other areas of tourism.

WOW:face-icon-small-con That is quite the write up............There is no indication that the jet skiers were doing anything obnoxious, illegal, or otherwise being disruptive. You are on a public body of water that is near city limits......not away in the mountains. It is for recreation. Do I enjoy a peaceful canoe across a mountain lake as much as the next guy?? Sure!! But I am realistic enough to know that there is a time and a place.

Public lakes like Bear Lake and the reservoirs next to me have motorized traffic. Thats just the way it is, all like to enjoy their waters different. Now if the wilderness away from it all is what your are looking for, then for heck sakes get out of town and head to the mountains. If it is like the Uintas around here most all of the lakes around there and accessible is "no motorized" traffic. And they really aren't big enough for it anyway.

Just by the categorization of "noisy stink machines" you know they are just that kind of neighbor that is annoyed by everything, never happy with anything, and just like to complain for complaining sake.

I am all for conservation and environmentalism to a point, but nature has to be enjoyed not locked down.

Probly just another one of those nerds that has never driven a motorized rec vehicle, only his POS Prius! LOL. I'd like to know where in wisconsin he has "seen this happen". We drive noisy stink machines all around this state! Maybe i will have to make a trip up to "see" tom from egg harbor! LOL:boxing:

They drove 1800 miles in their noisy polluting vehicle to visit some friends and explore some new country, and they are complaing about noise and pollution? Have they ever stood at the side of a freeway and listened to and smelled the cars going by?

Seems a little hypocritical to me.

Another freaking tree hugging, go green, Prius owner. I am ashamed of my fellow Wisconites who think this way. I see he is from Egg Harbor, that explains it right there. I betcha he his drink of choice is wine.

People like him wouldn't go to a lake where a jetski is not allowed, because he wouldn't have anything to ***** about! :hurt:

Another case of a granola eating, hariy armpit, unshowered, birkenstock wearing hippy thinking his (or her in the case of hairy armpit) way of enjoying nature is the "only" way to enjoy it. And that we shouldn't have the right to choose how we enjoy the outdoors. Guess what, when I'm riding a jet ski, and those hippies in the canoe get in my way should I say they are a nuisance? Or when I ride my snowmobile down the trail and some cross country skier or snow shoer is in the middle of the trail annoying me should I send a letter to the forrest service? We need to stick up for our rights to enjoy nature the way WE want to.

I just love how people like that can find anything to b*tch and moan about. They don't live anywhere near here, why should they even care, and just to think I was one of those Beer-Muscled Bone-Heads a couple weeks ago.:face-icon-small-hap

counter letter. LOL

Dear Editor,

I have traveled to McCall many times and I would like to thank the City and surrounding areas of the amazing ability for us to utilize our recreational vehicles. The mountains in the winter are absolutely amazing and offer some of the most incredible back-country riding, from site seeing, hill climbing or just getting in the thick deep snow to have the time of our life. It is also great how many people we meat that share our passion who are increasingly friendly and always up to lend a hand while having a great time.

But it always seems there is a person or person's that seem to screw it up and take away from mine and others wonderful experience. The last time I went out we where having a day to die for until we came to a hillside where there where some skiers. We where very polite and sat for awhile and rode in areas that didn't disrupt there path until they had thoroughly tor it up, so we proceeded to tear it up too. But to my disappointment they where disgusted and told us to find another location while failing to recognize are effort to be polite.
So we hit another trail and immediately ran up on some cross country skiers that flipped us the bird, we even slowed down for them.

It is rather disappointing that skier and borders that us sleds to get to the hill get pissed at us for using sleds also, just ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is when cross country skier have fast amounts of wilderness to thrive in and are upset at us for using the small amount of land we still can. They know where we ride yet choose to be there and pollute our ability to enjoy what God gave us. I have had this happen many times weather it was on a sled, dirt bike, atv, water craft, you name eventually someone disrespects our way of life.

I have heard some say that noise making polluting machines will hurt tourism, I personally say you have a monopoly the government has setup by restricting us to certain plots of land and have nothing to worry about. As everyone knows Snowmobile and boat owners spend more money in a weekend then most do in two weeks. Let alone the money spent on pickups, trailers, sleds, mods for sleds, gear and the list goes on. So if these people are so insistent on using our designated land instead of the vast amounts of wilderness I say lets trade and you don't even have to groom the trails or worry about collecting our money.

( I think its time we gained some respect and force out the non supporting, as they have already done to us. )

Thanks
