Read this tonight in our local paper. Pretty frustrating to read when we're so generalized and easily applies to all motorized recreational users and when they are close to hundreds of others lakes that these "stink machines" are not allowed on!
You can find this in the current issue of the Star News of McCall Idaho in the "Letter to the Editor" section:

Wisconsin visitor objects to ‘noise and stink machines’ on lake
To the Editor:
My wife and I recently visited McCall. We were there on a visit to an old friend and to explore a part of the country we had never seen. McCall is a wonderful city in a wonderful place and should be very proud of itself for the fine job done on the city waterfront areas, etc.
We also enjoyed just sitting at the beach in the state park and visiting with our friends. It is clear that the citizens of McCall truly appreciate and enjoy the wonderful area in which they live.
But, there is a fly in the ointment. As part of our stay we rented a canoe and went up river at the north end of Payette Lake. We got there fairly early and had the river to ourselves for quite a while. We saw lots of wildlife and the air had the wonderful smell of conifers. It was truly enjoyable.
Imagine our surprise, shock, and disgust when we came back down to the mouth of the river and were assaulted by the stink and noise of jet skis. Why in the world are those nitwit noise and stink machines allowed on this end of the lake? It isn’t like there isn’t enough room on the lower end of the lake for the beer muscled bone heads who find this useless activity to their liking.
While the people of McCall seem to truly enjoy the wonderful area they live in I am not convinced that they truly appreciate what they have. I come from a tourist area along the waters of Lake Michigan and the bay of Green Bay and I can tell you that if these nitwits are allowed to continue to stink up the north end of Payette Lake your reputation as a desirable destination for travel will suffer. I have seen it happen in Wisconsin.
Face it, these noisy stink machines are little more than gasoline powered toys for a class of essentially spoiled brats. I saw people of all ages and abilities on the river. Some of it was almost comical but give the folks credit for at least using their own muscle power and going slow enough to see what was going on. What, really, can you say to the credit of the beer-muscled bone-heads on jet skis?
Think it over McCall. You can make up the tourist revenue by working on better service in other areas of tourism.
