Beef Recall Video... Brutal!!!

I just watched that on the news. That POS that rolled the cow around with the forklift, well I just can't think of anything s--tty enough to do to him. I hope the law nails him to a cross.

Another notch in PETA and the Humaine Society's belt. Freakin morons! Stressed beef tasts like crap anyway! And wren't most of those Holstein Dairy cows anyway! I didn't think they get butchered into beef anywhere?

I also saw this on the news.Video they showed last night had a guy dragging a cow with a chain with a forklift. The meat has been sold to our school systems :eek:as well as In and Out Burger and Jack In The Box!Beware of where you eat.Just a little more fuel for the crazy peta people.

I doesn't matter how much a job payed....You couldn't get me to do that to animals!

The sad reality of it is that if most of us saw the everyday workings in a kill plant, there would be alot more vegetarians!

Alot of those crippled old cows would rather smash you too death too than walk anywhere. Not sure why more farmers dont just shoot them and use them for coyote bait than try and sell them for 50 bucks and have people see them crawling around.

I run a small cow/calf farm, 100 head red angus. The only thing that needs to be shot is that a--hole in the forklift. That is not the everyday workings of a slaughterhouse, and yes I have tried to move a 1200# cow by hand, no it doesn't work but I can't imagine what kind of lowlife douche bag would do that to a crippled up animal.

This is exactly why I shot a moose and eat that instead of beef. Plus it's actually healthy.

People need to learn how to shoot the cow instead of trying to sell it. First thing that happens to a downer cow, is she gets every shot you can imagine to get her up. MOst shots have a residue, and a very strict statement that says do not use on animal used for slaughtor. I belive simple Pennicilin is like 60 days..

Many livestock auctions will not sell a downer cow, or one that has problems traveling. They simply tank her. WHich is what needs to happen. When taking a animal into sell or slaughtor, ask yourself, would I eat this. If you hesitate, shoot her and move on.

And that is not a kill plant. Modern kill plans are very efficient, clean and a stress free enviorment. It has to be for many reasons. To pass any and all health inspections, be humane, and for profitability. Dark cutters (a stressed animal) makes no money.

People need to think about what they consume. What eats better, that yearling doe in my stackyard, or that antelope that you chased for 4 miles and snot? Have to take into consideration of what the animal eats, and how it is handled. 99.9999% of people, including many producers do not understand this.

Educate me

Skogen please elaborate!

This may be the biggest problem...I walk into a store to buy some ground beef for Tacos tonight, how would I know where the beef came from or if it was from a downer cow? and I do not think 99.9999% of people would either!

We are all pretty offended by the video but what could I have done, to prevent this type of treatment to the cows? seems like this is pretty much a self regulated industry when you compare the number of Kill plants to the number of FDA inspectors right?

Go to a good butcher shop that gets their critters locally and pay a little more for quality meat.

Our slaughtor plans are clean. IMO we have the safest food supply in the world. Cheapest also.

Education about your product is very important. Alot of people do not know what they look at. They see a cute, neat package and assume it is good. Walmart sells tons of junk like that.

There are all kinds of options on ways to get good meat. Some stores do sell better quality meat. Sams Club sells choice beef. Kroger foods in some of their stores sells better quality.

4H, there are thousands of kids that raise 4H steers as projects and sell them at state fairs. Good quality meat, you know where it came from, helping put that kid through college. Cheap advertisement for any business.

And there are many local butcher shops, or local ranchers who sell good quality meat. A meat shop will be more expensive. Your local guys are a good option. Doing a bit of research will help, is it grass fattened, grain fed, how long on feed, the breed of the animal. All this will tell you how that animal will marble, how lean it will be and some of the more general carcas charicteristics.

Nothing can beat good quality beef. I recommend buying it from a local guy by the 1/2 or 1/4 depending on the size of your family. If you figure it out per pound, you save money doing it this way and get alot better quality product, that you know exactly where it came from and what it came off of.

It is very difficult to tell the difference between good beef and bad beef when it comes to ground beef. Thats why it is strongly suggested to buy ground beef from somewhere you trust such as locally like earlier stated. All this news covereage of the recall is excellent for smaller butcher shops.

I hate buying my beef from the supermarket, Wallmart and Choice "less" Meats (the guys that peddle out of freezer pickup trucks)! I'll buy ground beef at the local Hy-Vee and their steaks are probably the best you'll get without going to a local butcher. But I prefer to buy a 1/4 or 1/2 at a time from a local rancher. And I prefer to age it a few weeks. 2 things that chap me ware the cust of meat that are a pink/purple with no flavor and people who order an excellent aged cut of beef well done (get ketchup and a bun to go with it). Rare to Medium is the way to go on a good cut of beef.

Aged is the only way to go. Age mine 21-27 days.

Just like those old timers that didnt cut their deer up till they saw green mold..

And yea, you cant tell what is in hamburger. Old recipie for burger was 1 part old dry cow, 1 part bull meat, 1 part fat, and 1 part ice.

As far as cooking good beef. Rare! If it moves, stab it with your fork again.
