I would recommend the BCA Tracker beacon. I like the fact that it is easy to use and it is cheaper...but that doesn't mean that you don't practice and really learn how to use it.

I like the Ortovox D3. It has 3 antenna's instead of 2 and has a longer range than the BCA. The 3 lights also stay consistent during the fine search mode. No matter which one you choose, practice. If you don't know how to use it, it doesn't matter which one you have.
I personally have a Barryvox 3000.

The tracker is definetely easier to use than the analog. As you noted, practice is key and there are many out there who like the analog because it has longer range than digital.
However, it is not the range that matters the most, it is how fast you are at finding someone with it and range is not the most critical factor.
