New wisdom: snowmobiles go up and down. Snowbikes go back and forth. My buddy was taken out by a sled yesterday (no fault at all on anyone's part--horrible circumstance) and got the lifeflight. Broken ribs, collarbone, scapula, and collapsed lung. He's out for a few months, and if the bumper of the sled had been 6" higher it would have hit his neck and helmet. Sleds and bikes don't really mix--different trajectories.

Wow that is a serious bummer. Sorry to hear that. Grateful my collision was minor. But I honestly didn't expect something to happen away from trail on just third ride out. That much power and size, can do some serious damage. Glad your friend is "ok," and alive.

One skis need a wing man when it comes to riding with others , especially sleds . Sleds at times do not realize the nimbleness of a one ski and sometimes curiosity gets the better of them .

My wing lady has blocked and saved my bacon a few times .

I have been on both sides sleds bikes - bikes sleds.
Sleds accelerate so much faster. Collisions of sleds with sleds are relatively common. I do not see it as a Bike VS sled issue. With sleds the sleds take the brunt - sleds Vs bike in a collision the biker is in a bad position. All I can say is once you are on a Bike it is the same on the Road with Cars -- on the Trails with Quads -- or sleds in winter. The outcome is never good for the Bike and Rider. Never think that anyone is looking out for you but yourself.
We often ride with bikes and sleds and it is well worth being with friends no matter what they ride. Look out for one an other like Hawkster said it pays of.
All the best to your friend.
Hope he heals well and fast.

Thought this was gonna be slide thing.

Bikes take the side hilling ski cutting to whole nother level than the sleds.

Best wishes for your buds recovery.

He's doing ok. Going to be out for two months, minimum. We got his bike and gear out yesterday--our buddies rode in 12 miles double with no problem!!! Good to know that's possible. I oriented the bike SW after the incident and it was warm to the touch when we got there, and fired on the first try. Didn't dry his helmet after bungee-ing to the fender all day, and naaaasty tonight.

Got a good ride in after. Interesting comparing a '15 LT, '16 LT TSS and a '14 ST. Might have to post a comparison.

And, he did the good deed and registered the SX as a snowmobile, and that $.25 is going to pay for the whole deal--$15,000?

Was out washing the Mag Chloride off the vehicles on Saturday when the FFL flew north up the valley & saw it veer a bit to the west, away from Purgatory, unfortunately my gut instinct was correct. Hoping for a quick recovery for your bud!
