BDX Oil Delete

OK guys, i know there is a LONG thread about this and i've followed it very closely. However, i had my 09 M8 SP on the snow last week and have a few ???'s. First, i decided to run a tube from where the pump used to inject oil into the water pump shaft / bearings. I filled this tube with oil and within the first 5 minutes of the ride the oil was gone and coming out of my Y pipe. I talked to the dealer and they said it's because of the vacuum suction.

My question is, what are the rest of you doing? I've heard of the zerx and greasing, but i don't think i want grease running through my motor. Who has a lot of time on the snow with there's without any probs and how is it set up?

Thanks in advance!

yep i use the tube..i plug it after i fill it...some oil always remains in the cavity..the rest goes into the crankcase...which in itself is proof that you really don;t need to do anything but stick with the basic oil delete...case if the oil drains from the cavity into the crankcase she gets oil from the crankcase as well..

Talked to one of the more highly regarded engine builders in Canada yesterday about this very subject. He said that the oil delete on the M1000 is okay as long as the sled has some miles on it. He said it does not hurt to squirt some white grease into the waterpump cavity and another thing he highly recommends is running the M1000 at 30:1 Engine will live longer.:beer;

I can attest to the 30:1. I run 32:1 and tune around that and have had really good luck premixing. I have heard a lot of guys running 50:1 or 100:1! No way. I would follow the directions on the oil delete post you are referrring to. Have a lot of sleds running this way with a lot of miles and no failures.

So when you plug the tube the oil stays in the tube?

The dealer told me this isn't true. Says the oil will only go from the cavity to the case, not the case to the cavity because of the vacuum suction. How long have you had this set up?

Thanks for the reply's!

32:1 on an 8 or 1000?

I installed the zerk on mine and gave it a few squirts of grease. But only have one ride on my mine since i removed it. I mixed at 36:1 on my 09

Good thread. I just got mine in the mail about 1/2 hour ago and will install tomorrow. I suppose the first thing to do, is go riding tomorrow for a while with premixed fuel before I pull the oil tank huh? Either that or I guess I could just premix when I get home and pull the fuel line to let the line drain until it starts flowing premixed fuel? I think I like the 36:1 myself and just maybe change plugs more often. What are you guys doing that run fuel boxes? Just bumping them up a notch to compensate?

nope..it dissapears..but the cavity always retains some oil in it...the vacuum doesn;t take it all out..(apparently)..and oil does go from the case to the cavity..other wise there wouldn;t be thousands of miles on stock deletes..i have 900 miles on mine

I have heard that same thing and that is why i didn't worry about it for the other 3 days of riding. How often do you "refill" the tube? Was thinking of just putting a little in after each trip (3-4 days of riding max). do you think this would work?

I sure hope this 4m doesn't become a paysite, we would loose way to much good knowledge:eek:

Thanks again fellas!

Are you running just the BDX kit or with the grease zerk option?

yep i think your duration of refilling is fine...3/4 days..my tube i have a 1/8 female pipe threaded barb and then i just revmove the 1/8 male pipe plug when i fill

I usually just built a block off plate and use a grease zerk on my own sleds, but have used the BDX kit on several. I have never just used the BDX kit as instructed for fear of failure.

did you have to order or build this greese zerk or oil line that your talking about I just got the oil pump delete replacment cover and a bolt to go into the bottom of the case on my kit. Do I need to do more than that? Please any info would be great dont want to kill my motor

I have nearly 2k on my current 1000, I squeezed some oil in from the bottom hole & some in where the delete goes, mostly to make sure that it wasn't dry when I first started it. I have never added any more grease, and have had no issues. The last one I did had 2500 miles with no issues & I didn't put any grease in that one at all, exactly per instructions.

Btw, I have been running no more than 32:1 for the last few years.

zerk fitting goes right in the hole where you remove the banjo from the bottom of the engine.

I made the tube setup myself after reading the previous post about this mod. I ran 40:1 on my 8 and it seemed to run good. I like the fact of knowing that some lube is getting in there so i'll just keep oiling it after each trip.

Thanks for all of the info, keep it coming!

Any pics?so for the oil line install.do u have 2 drill and tape the bdx Del or install it in the same place as the grease zerk underneath.how long of a line is needed
