BDX gear case?

My M8 turbo is almost done! Should I Go with the BDX case? I really enjoy my reverse. I am a little worried about the stock gears not holding up. Or should I just replace the stock gears with the BDX gears and keep the stock case?Or leave it stock?

Sled is an 07 M8 Twisted kit Running between 10-14 pounds.

Thanks!

What I did was change to bdx solid gears and ran Valvoline Full Synthetic(good to -50 F). I took out and examined the dd every 500 miles and cleaned it front to back. So far its got 1400 miles never had any thing inside fail. TM800 full race gas set up.

I had 1800 miles on my DD -MT1000 07 before it went. But if taken apart flushed and oil change every 500 miles and you should be good. Also DD are available on here fairly cheaply,if you keep an eye out.Myself and a buddy got two for spares, complete for $250(Can) a piece.

The stock setup is famous for breaking on stock sleds . I know a guy who changes them all the time in a Cat shop. I cant speak to the BDX replacment parts for the stock drive , dont know anyone who has gone that way.

I pitched reverse ,picked my gear ratio , and dumped 12 lbs with the DD Lite from BDX. They also have some new " High Torque " parts that are going to be in the new DD Lite units .

I would call BDX and talk with them about the new parts in the Lite, and wait till they are out if you do dump reverse.

yes BDX sells some better gears and bearing and other stuff, yes the DD lite is lighter but still will not resolve the plant gearset problem....the plant gearset is the biggest problem with these things, period

now heres the funny part, BDX sells better stuff for a gearbox they make......LMAO!

You can say that again! I geared my '07 M1000 down to 56/64 and 3 rides later the DD (planetary gearset) took a crap & took out my new 56 gear with it. I was lucky the CAT warrantied the DD, but I got stuck with a new 60 gear so I'm back to 60/60..

I *thought* the DD lite without reverse did away with the planetary gearset?? How can I get rid of the puppy? There MUST be a way! I want a freakin' chain case! If not, I've got 2 '07 CAT's for sale... M8 & M1000 153" & 162"

I was worried about CAT's mechanical reverse when I switched from Poo 'cause of their Crank issues, but didn't want a bendable/foldable Doo or 3 Ton Yammi.

I guess it's pick your poison.

Hey Matt if ya wanna keep reverse, ya then just pick the ratio of gears u want from BDX. Ran them in my stock case before it grenaded (planetary gear)
Then got the LW case, no reverse but less parts. Also blew that up second ride ( so they are not indestructible), but they warrantied it as well

nope, its basically impossible to not have a planetary gearset in the current config of these DDs...only a direct drive would fix the real issue with these DDs...but then it would be a 1:1 gear ratio between the secondary and the track shaft....that would work very well;)

my thoughts -

- get the solid BDX gears
- every 400 miles, take it apart, clean and inspect
- have a spare planetary gear on hand.....only 160ish of this and another 10ish for the outside gear that is hard not to jack up with you split the gearing
- buy the older 07 plug drain that has a metal catcher thingy;)
