bca mtn pro vest - Any real customer reviews

wet snow and zippers

i had the snowpulse vest last few years got frustrated with frozen zippers
went with bca and its better
we are in wet snow area and I watched my buddy struggle as I did with his snowpulse
bca zipper better but shovel holder not as good
overall better for me though and looks awesome

I bought the Float MTN Pro vest this fall with a couple rides on it. Being 6'2" 290 I worried that it wouldn't fit properly. It fits just fine! I love that it has the beacon pocket up front. No more strap burns to the neck after a days ride. Also no more feeling like I'm being strangled by the harness. The way this vest fits you can hardly tell you have a pack on. No more straps digging into your arm pits. Also no fatigue of wearing a back pack all day. It distributes the weight quite well. I also like the way the BC Link radio fits in the pack and the mic sits high on your shoulder with the base secured in the back pack. The only thing I would like to see in the future is the rib plates being longer. They sit higher on me since I'm a bigger guy. Definitely worth the money!

Is there room to stash the link mic behind the zipper where it comes out? We had some freezing problems last year with them.

There is absolutely enough room to zip your mic in the zippered pouch. If you run it on the opposite side of your trigger pull. I know some guys were putting the mic in the same side as their trigger. Doing this won't be enough room. I wouldn't recommend that because if I need to activate my bag I definitely don't want the mic to interfere.

I'm 6'5" with boots, 225 geared up, wide shoulders, 32" waist. Will this fit me decent? I would like to try one on, but don't know of a place in a reasonable distance that carries these.

1st ride yesterday. snowbike and sled. weight distribution is far superior to a backpack which was my main reason for trying it. didn't notice it moving around when standing, sitting, or digging out. i got the exterior shovel attachment for more room on the interior which, for what you are getting and it's intended purpose, i think is reasonable. we all want no weight, maximum protection, huge storage, and pajama comfort but that's not realistic. 2 thumbs up IMO.

i should mention i'm a bca pro rider and am 5'-8" and #180.

Anyone know of updates to the 16/17 model?

Not aware of any they have made

My zipper drops a bit when I ride, but not enough to concern me. It's only about 2 inches. BUT, I sure wouldn't want that to be an issue in an avy situation that allows my vest to come off.

They fixed the zipper with "Tactile center zip with secure snap closure"
it is a plastic clip like the chest strap on a float back pack that goes across the top of the zipper when it is zipped up..
The BCA vest has good protection but is still flexible for maximum movement..

The tech vest is great also but more rigid..

Leatt also makes a chest protector with the neck brace incorperated specially for winter weather if you really need protection???(have not tried it with an air bag though?)

I'll have to check into this.

I wonder if they could retro-fit mine.

OR, I wonder if I could have one sewn on without voiding any warranty or support from BCA.

My new BCA Vest just arrived the other day.
Haven't even had the opportunity to UNPACK it yet.
But I sure am looking forward to giving it a try this season!

I have been considering the BCA and the Snow Pulse vest too.
But my big concern is the protection,,,the armour. There were a few posts about being inadequate.
I smashed my ribs last year in McBride BC and thought I broke my sternum and ribs, thank god I didn't. I didn't have any vest of any sort. So I went to a motocross/full chest protector. Its warm, but solid protection.
So..can you guys give me some solid info on the armour side. Are the vests flexible, is it foam, plastic armour?? I went and got a Tekvest after that accident and it was garbage. I'm 6' 2" 220 and my abdomen was wide open and fit like crap. Rode up all of the time, just all around inadequate.
Sure would be appreciated.

They make many versions of tekvests. The most common version is the Freestyle and it is cut short for sit down riding and not very good for mountain riders. The Tekvest Crossover is the version that is much longer in the waste (2" longer) for mountain riders or any stand-up style riding. It also has armor only on the front and both sides but no armor on the back and relies on a backpack for back protection so it runs a bit cooler.

I ran mine for several years and love it. That being said, my wife and I both got BCA vests at the end of last year (haven't ridden with them yet) so I won't be running the tekvest on most rides anymore, but keeping it around. Just mentioning that about tekvests since the version that is most common (the Freestyle) isn't the best version for mountain riders. You have to find the Crossover version.

What shovels are you guys using with the vest? I want some type of "hoe" shovel, but want to make sure it fits properly with the vest.

black diamond s7 with the add on shovel pouch not a perfect fit but the handle on the s7 slides inside the shovel so you don't have the telephone pole sticking out of the top.

Black Diamond Transfer 7 in mine; handle inside the pack, blade in the external pouch. The blade fits a little goofy, but is secure none the less.
