I got a float 30 today and the cannister is empty. Can I just take it to a dive shop for a fill?
Why don't they come filled?

thanks
DK

Where did you buy it from?
I have purchased 3 Float 30's and they all have come with a canister that was filled to 2,700 psi. They are filled at the factory and if it is now empty you could have a major problem with your canister leaking air. I would contact the retailer you purchased it from and ask them to send you a new FILLED canister. The canisters can only be sent via UPS Ground and require the extra charge for compressed gas. Should be about $30 for shipping and the retailer had better give you a warranty filled canister for and pay to ship it to you. You already paid the $30 shipping charges to get the pack. If they don't take care of you contact BCA directly and let everyone on here know where you got it so we can aviod purchasing a pack from them.

I got it from my Arctic Cat Dealer and it was given to me so I can promote the dealership. I'm not out anything, and the owner of the dealership wasn't sure if they came filled or I needed to get it filled.
There is a fill station about an hr away so worst case I can shoot up there to have it filled. I've sent an email to bca asking for their suggestion as well.
I'd love to take it down the street to the dive shop and have them charge the cyl for me!

If you do decide to refill it to the recomended 2,700 psi @ 70* then keep an eye on the air pressure. If it is empty now that could mean that the gauge is broken, the tank leaks, or it has been test fired once before.

I would hook it up to the trigger system and DO NOT hook up the bag inflation then pull the rip cord to make sure it is not charged and the gauge is defective.

Then fill it and dunk it underwater to check for any leaks. If it all checks out then use it but check the first couple times before you ride to make sure the air pressure is holding steady.

My BCA canister had the gauge break while full. I bought it in June so I had never even used it. I contacted BCA, got an RA #, shipped it to them for $5 and received my new one by the end of the week. I did empty the canister before I shipped it to them. They covered the hazardous shipping charges for the replacement. In my opinion, that is how a company should give product support. No questions asked, just took care of the problem and made me a very happy customer :D

The canisters come filled from the factory, but shipping the canisters empty allows the canisters to be shipped without having a HazMat certification.

A lot of people are buying the fill adapters for their airbag so that they don't have to find somewhere that has the fill adapter.

There are two common fill adapters. One that goes from a SCUBA tank to the airbag cansiter and one that goes from the Fire Department cascade system to the airbag cansiter.
You can check out the different fill adapters at: http://www.snowbigdeal.com/servlet/...cln-Spare-Canisters-&-Service-Kits/Categories

BCA sent me an email to take it to a scuba store for refill, and if I can't find somebody to fill it, to send it to them.

I dropped it at the scuba store today, the girl behind the counter new all about this type of tank but for other applications, she said the the owner of the store will definitly be able to fill it but won't be in until Monday.

I'll blow it off right in the scuba store Monday for a test fire and refill.

Just in case the person filling the canister has not done a small one before...they get hot, and need to be filled slow, allowed to cool (which drops the pressure) and then topped off to the proper pressure.

The first one I had filled at a scuba shop, they filled it fast and the canister got too hot to touch!!

I just blew it off and it worked great. I took a video via iphone but my computer is down so i cant post it. If you guys want to see the video someone will have to let me email it and then post it for me.
