Tracker4 Voluntary Recall Press Release

BCA ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY RECALL OF LIMITED NUMBER OF TRACKER4 AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVERS

Backcountry Access (BCA), in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, is issuing a voluntary recall of select Tracker4 avalanche transceivers. The units bear serial numbers that start with 21H05 or 21H06 and were sold from June 2021 to February 2022.
The reason for the recall is the toggle switch can separate from the transceiver and prevent it from switching to search mode, making it difficult to locate a skier or rider in an avalanche.

Backcountry Access (BCA), in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, is issuing a voluntary recall of a small number of Tracker4 avalanche transceivers due to a switch plastics production issue.

This issue impacts certain Tracker4 beacons with serial numbers that start with 21H05 or 21H06 sold after June 1, 2021. The affected units may have been purchased as a part of a Tracker4 rescue package or as a standalone unit.

The reason for the recall is a switch plastics production issue that may result in the switch falling off the transceiver. If this occurs, the user would not be able to turn the transceiver on and off, preventing the ability to transmit or search for a discoverable electronic signal in the event of an avalanche. There have been no reported incidents in which the Tracker4 switch issue has contributed to a fatality, injury, or other damage.

Consumers should immediately stop using any Tracker4 avalanche transceivers with serial numbers that start with 21H05 or 21H06. To determine if a unit is affected, look for the serial number inside the battery door. If the serial number begins with 21H05 or 21H06, BCA will replace it with a new unit at no cost. To register for a free replacement unit, complete the Tracker4 Recall Replacement Form.
