Snowmobilers i was reading through news articles on the big avalanche in BC and i was appauled with the responses to the article here are a few.

"RIP to the dead. Let us hope the survivors recover.

Yes, sell your sled. Live to tell that tale. These machines have become enablers of death. If the sport does not willingly die, it may be time for government to regulate it out of this madness, save the death, the terrible news, the enormous public costs, and the high-profile stupidity of so many otherwise smart people.

These personal thrills have now become a staggering public burden and cost. Too much. End it now or saner minds will end it for you." H hifax

I am amazed at the simplicity of people these days. I happen to have a good freind that died in an avalanche and I don't agree with this statement at all if they are going to ban sledden then we are going to have to start taken vehicals of the roads becasue statistically more people die in cars accidents then in sled accidents. I would strongly encourage everone that reads this post to go to http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/you-had-nowhere-to-go/article1500255/ and read the article and the comments

huh?

That pisses me off !!!
I was in the avy in revy and lived with some injuries ! I will not stop sledding !
how many people smoke a pack of cigarettes and it Say's on the pack that this will kill you! How much do you think that cost the tax payers in health care? Billions!!
People are not keeping this in perspective!

Nice try

Better shut all the ski hills down to with all the fatalities that happen on the slopes, some people do not realize the minute you were born there was always a risk of death weather your driving a car, crossing the road blah, blah, blah some people need to think twice before they speak just my 2 bits.

Just think how many broken legs and arms on a busy ski hill on any given day or in Whistler on the downhill bike trails.

let these horrible accidents bring US ( as a snowmobing community ) together , united, to defend our right to play, and enjoy the amazing winter backcountry... Lets stand up for each other and our fallen friends, and family... They should ban tobacco or guns before banning sledding.. Lets not over re-act, to the foolish statements made. Lets rise up and educate, and make this a fun, safer sport.. Lets strive for ZERO avi deaths next snowmobile season... And maybe we can feed the world and have global peace too, one day... We can enjoy the backcountry safely, and yes some of us will play too hard, and yes accidents WILL happen... No more planes, cars , trucks, can't go to work.. some people die at work too you know... Where will it end...

I am a big sledding fan and skier off machines and love sledding. These are just opinions from the ill-imformed and they are mearly expressing from what they read in the media.

However if no one here finds the complete lack of sense that went on that weekend of the big iron shot out then more people are going to side on those peoples side.

The warning were huge, it does not mean that people shouldn't have been out there but climbing those hills was asking for trouble. Until each and everyone one of us sledders stands up and says were are not going to stand for that kind of riding on those days when you would have to live on another planet to not see, hear or be warned of the dangers.

I am in the backcountry 4-5 days a week and the stuff I see out there everyday is scary...there is one thing the government or others can't control and that is a person who is caught up in the moment and unaware of their surroundings...

Use the greatest gift we all have, your head, so your family friends and others don't have to live to see your funeral...

keep riding and enjoying live but get informed, make good decisions and pas s it on to everyone you ride with...
