Base gasket thickness?

Ive got an 03 mxzx rev 800 that blew up last year. Finally getting around to fixing it now. I also blew it up a couple years ago too and put a Wiesco gasket kit in it that time. Now I dont need a full kit all I need is a base gasket which come in anywhere from .05mm to.08mm from ski-doo. Last time I just put the wiesco in and ran it but you cant buy just a base gasket from wiesco. How do I figure out what gasket I need? The parts kid at the dealer told me to get the same as the one I took out. Well I dont have that one. Anouther thing, if they sell different gaskets to adjust for squish wouldnt the compansating for vareing part dimensions? ie. height of cylinder, head and crankcase? Well These arnt the same jugs that went with that original base gasket so you cant really just put the same gasket in can you?

I just replaced the top end on my 600HO ZX. It had a 5 hole (0.5mm) gasket.

From researching, it looks like most sleds have .5 or .6 depending on the measurements at the factory. To do it right you need to measure the squish height (not sure how to do it, but someone else will know.). The thicker you go, the less compression you will have. Some people go thinner to raise compression.

If it were me, I'd try to measure the existing gasket with a micrometer or check the base on the carb side between the pistons to see if you can see any faint marks from the previous gasket. If all else fails, I'd go with a a 6. If compression winds up over 155psi I'd go with a thicker gasket.

You can also search dootalk as there forums haven't changed in a while and may have something specific to your model.

Unfortunatly there is no way to lookup which gasket your sled came with. According to tom lawrence at skidoo race, doo used 5 to 8 hole gaskets to compensate for varying case heights. As stated a gernally safe gasket to use is a six hole, and as stated if your really trying to figure it out you must measure the squish clearance, however you must also measure port timing. Hollar if you need help on measuring squish clearance.

So they are compensating for variations in case height variation not cylinder height variation? Cylinders must run pretty consistant then huh? You measure squish by inserting a lenght of solder in the sparkplu hole then up against edge of pistion then turn over by hand then remove solder and measure right? I was told you are shooting for no less than 0.050"(have to convert that to metric but all my mics are english) correct? How do you measure port timing? Also isnt there a crank bearing that should be regreased occasionally? Which one is it? Are a tube of case seal and a $50 tube of ski-doo grease the only thing I need to do that?
