Barrasso Response to HR980 Wyo

May 20, 2009

Dear Trevor,

Thank you for contacting me about H.R. 980, the "Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act." It is good to hear from you.

I understand your concerns with H.R. 980. This legislation was introduced by a Congresswoman from New York and most of the co-sponsors represent districts east of the Mississippi River . It is a prime example of how legislators in Washington , D.C. want to tell people in Wyoming how to manage our lands.

H.R. 980 would lock-up over 24 million acres of land in Idaho , Montana , Oregon , Washington , and Wyoming and could be potentially devastating to the West's ability to fight and prevent forest fires. This legislation has been referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources. Should a similar measure be considered in the Senate during the 111th Congress, I will do everything in my power to oppose it.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact me. I hope to hear from you in the future.

John Barrasso, M.D.
United States Senator

cool... I havent heard back from our S.D. reps yet.. but i'm hoping its along those same lines

Took me 5 minutes to sign the petition and 2 days to get this response.. its not hard guys, you all love this sport, i know I do!! Lets keep it adventurous and not confined!! take the time, save a ride!

Interesting, hadn't thought of the forest fire aspect of the whole deal.

Maybe that's what it takes.

:(

I signed the opposition list and sent letters to my reps as well... hope it helps, this is ridiculous that people from the other side of the country are trying to tell us what we can and can't do:mad:

Glad to read that. I have seen Barrasso on CNBC before, he seems like he has Wyoming's interests in his decisions.

Barasso, Enzi, and Loomis are all very heated debaters on this issue, Barasso made a very valid point with the ability to fight forest fires (which occur at least 3-5 times a summer) and with the lack of seasonal water, we need to keep access to these areas open in order to ensure the diligent life of wyomings pristine landscape!
