Ban Sleds on Crown Land

As of press-time late last week the B.C. Snowmobiling Federation had not responded to an email asking for comment on Wiegele’s proposals.

i guess 2 weeks isn't enough time to prepare a reply ???

After reviewing the "Waiver" form from:
http://www.wiegele.com/docs/waiver_winter.pdf
I wonder why Mr. Weigle is preaching as he does.
Why is he trying to "legislate" our rights and freedoms when he does not have the kahunas to run his business as he forces his customers to use his services (without a net).
Hopefully the BC Government can see through the facade and realize the guy has been up in the thin air too long.

my response is rippin up blue river heli-sking pow and dont care who reads this :)

I agree. Were gonna tear up Blue River this year until that a$$ clown shuts his trap. I would also like to know how many lives that heli-skiing operations have cost over the past 15 or so years. Wiegele is an out-of-towner who should just go back home to Austria or wherever he is from.

Eight recreational deaths this weekend in B.C. none due to snowmobiling 1 atv, a few drownings, and the rest rollover or accidents heading to camping areas. I would like to see the death toll at the end of the season i am sure it will dwarf the snowmobile deaths over the winter, as for mike he is a joker and i sure hope no one is stupid enough to take the guy serious, also truck safe B.C. is really stirring the pot up here as well they have a loud voice and are being heard in Victoria, in my opinion they should properly mark the roads that active logging is taking place and we shouldn't enter them without a radio end of story its to dangerous, but active logging roads are getting hard to find seems he economy and the Govt are taking care of that. We still have miles of backroads in this province no point in shutting them all down just properly mark the ones they are using. JMT

Mike has been at this a long time. He was part of the original members of our association, but left when his interests were not all being met.

Dont forget that BC has two provincial clubs. The Association of British Columbia Snowmobile Clubs http://www.abcsnow.ca/ has had a posting on its website and all members clubs websites for a bit now.

They are also in close relation and constant discussion with government. They are working on finding solutions to educational issues instead of fighting a public battle with a very wealthy company. Please contact them or better yet join to get more information.

that was a great response on the abcsnow website. i'm sure that people in government are just laughing at weigle anyways. it is totally unrealistic to try and enforce most of the legislations he is proposing. ban all the crown land you want, i'll still be out there.

that being said, it does worry me when i see someone with a badass sled, and no mountaineering skills. the way sleds are built these day, a novice rider can go just about anywhere on the mountain. it doesn't take long to become a good snowmobile rider, but it takes years to become a good mountaineer. a good sledder needs to be both, or should ride with someone who is.

i do believe in education and safety equipment, but experience is equally important. you can't buy that, or read it in a book. should the government be responsible for regulatign these things? no. but i do like the idea of making information more readily available. more updates on snow conditions on news and radio broadcasts in each local area is a good idea. postings at trailheads for areas maintained by snowmobile clubs would be nice. i think my trail pass fee should be able to cover something that simple.
