baker groomer

I have been riding here for 15 years and I guarantee I rode more days than you this December and have seen the lack of grooming first hand. The groomer may have been out a lot of those days but he spends 80% of his time plowing and the trails didn't get groomed.

No one says he should have worked Christmas but Schreibers and GCreek should have had twice the normal grooming schedule because the areas saw twice the normal traffic. Maybe you're new to the sport and don't ride a lot of other areas but a lot of areas groom more during the holidays (daily in BC)

Not all of this is Randy's fault, some of it is systemic, either way it isn't working and is much lower quality than it used to be under previous contracts/contractors. We need to separate the plowing from the grooming. We need to allocate grooming $$$ based on usage....we don't need Finney Creek groomed every week (or at all) when 3 people used it in a given week. Why is he grooming the Nordic trail 2x for every 1x at Glacier Creek? IT ISNT WORKING!
Guys I learned something the other day and may help you all with groomers, write them an email as only way fs and state see any problems, also groomers have to respond to emails worth a try they don't care what we write here.

Couple of answers...first is the Nordic has their own separate funding so it has nothing to do with our program other than Randy has that contract also and the schedules need to work around each other.
Second is the funds for the plowing and grooming are separate. Plowing can have an impact on grooming but only when it comes to time it takes and how much time the groomer has in the day.

I am not involved with the grooming any longer but have spent many years involved with the program. As always the operator has a lot to do with the quality of the end product and the owner has a lot to do with the reaction to the complaints. I was very surprised to see the missed grooming over the holidays, this is a contract and I couldn't imagine unless it is written into it any reason it wasn't done. For those of us who own a business, other than Christmas day it is work as usual.

as a groomer contractor we all review these post the state parks also reviews these. now for holidays as a life time snowmobiler myself and my family have rode Xmas day and new years for 20 years. and yes we were out grooming over the holiday week.

Well, he groomed nicely Monday up to about 100yds shy of Creek crossing. I guess that's the end of the grooming contract now. Sure was nice for families to have the trail go all the way to salad bowl. Grooming will probably be great now that it quit dumping and he isn't spending all his time plowing....

Someone told me that he can't / won't cross the creek until there is 8ft or more of snow there. Something to do with the boulders under the snow. That's why I think he continues to stop there.

I carry a 3 meter avy probe with me, I'll check the depth around the creek next time I'm up there but I'm pretty sure it's well over 8 feet. I was probing and digging near the ski area last weekend and there was around 240cm next to Terminal Lake at 4250' and I wasn't hitting bottom at Austin Pass at 4600'.

what happened to the groomer who used to groom all the way up to the lake at bearpaw? and up to gas can at schreibers?

What's the story on the the groomer grooming canyon Creek?
The road is open to sleds, why not groom it?
The snow level is down to hwy542.

The road is only open to "over the snow vehicles" and the forest service is going by the WA state definition of an over the snow vehicle which is something about track driven and ski steered instead of the federal definition of an over the snow vehicle which includes snowcats. Makes tons of sense since the FS is federal...

So what the hell is a groomer? The groomer goes up Glacier Creek.
Groomers run all over the state for chit sake. Mt baker has a fleet of them.
The FS is so F'ed up. Absolutely no common sense
Canyon Creek is part of the grooming system,we pay to have it groomed. No mention of road damage. The snow level is low enough to groom, it fricken needs it.

Canyon Creek

Canyon Creek Road FS # 31 (3160 and 3170 included) is not groomed this year due to the barrier at MP 5.5 (or so) due to the previous slide damage. Please respectfully remind the FS to repair the road so the grooming will be good next year! Also support the folks that are working to keep this important riding area open!

It's open to ride. The groomer can put a burm over top the blocks and groom up there. The FS could give the OK to groom, but they will not.
It was not that long ago the FS would willingly work with the clubs but not now with the new Ranger (EU) has no intention of working with the snowmobile community.
Like I said no frickin common sense here.

Canyon Cr this year is by far the definition of "you gotta earn your runs"

If you're willing to ride 8+ miles one way of whoops, you'll be rewarded with fresh untouched. ;-)

it's even worse on the way out, when you're whooped from the day of riding... make sure you have a good chiropractor
