Bad accident in WY yest. My family made me proud

Bad accident in WY yesterday spot used and worked

Yesterday, in horse creek, near pinedale a lady was severley injured when a sled struck her and pinned her between her sled and the moving sled resulting in a severe upper leg break. My parents(who are very new to this sport) and my sister and brother in law were waved down by the ladies daughter to help them out. (I did not get to go because of work). My brother in law is a very saftey orientated person and had some bivy sacks and other survival gear on his sled. He carries 2 backpacks on EVERY trip, 1 on his back and 1 on his sled, so you can imagine the stuff he carries. Also had a couple rinos and a SPOT. He went down to the lady and activated SPOT while my parents headed to the parking lot to meet the sherriff and S&R. Also I believe the ladies daughter had 911 on the phone and my brother in law was able to give GPS cord. from the rino.
Once the sherriff arrived at the parking lot he had allready gotten the SPOT cords. from dispatch. This was probably 45 min after activation. S&R arrived and my parents led them 10.5 miles in and they stabilized the lady. They ended up life flighting her out.
I do not have anymore details as I just heard this when I got home from work today. I sure hope the lady ends up Ok.

It really makes me feel good to know that my family along with 99% of other sledders would help a person in any situation and forget about the reason they are really up there for. TO RIDE.

My only question for you guys is, My brother in law activated SPOT and S&R came and LIFE FLIGHT came, but not for him. How does that work if you use your SPOT for someone else? Is there a bill for that?

I'm sure there are some forum members on here that were up there. If you have anything to add please do.

EVERYBODY BE SAFE!!!!!!!!

crappy deal.. hope she turns out alright..

Its great to know that people like this are out there.. also a little piece of mind to people that dont carry certain items that can help in a situation..

great story.. would like to hear some more info on the spot deal also..

I wouuld think that by just activating spot does not mean anything money wise.

The S&R probably made the determination that this person needed lifeflight, and needed it now.

All Spot did was to get someone to the scene ASAFP. Everything after that would have been the same, just you got them there a whole lot faster......

No bill to you........

Life flight bill will be paid by insurance company

We were at the Blind Bull Warming Hut

My club, the Sweetwater Snowpokes, was at the Blind Bull Warming Hut/Safety Shelter dedicating the new shelter we built and having a BBQ. I was not in the building when evidently someone came and asked for help for the lady who was hurt. I was told 4 (?) of our male members took blankets and other supplies that we stock in the hut and left to assist. One of them is a firefighter/EMT (who stayed with her until she was transported). I was told when some of the guys returned that she indeed fractured her femur, that someone called 911 via a cell phone, that Search and Rescue were in the parking lot and medical personnel were on their way. Later I was told she was "driven" to a clearing where a helicopter landed and took her. I was also told that they were waiting for the EMT's as they had to make the call on a helicopter. The trail was very rough on our way out, so glad she didn't have to be driven back. She was laying there for hrs I believe which made me think about being prepared for that situation.
Some of us have SPOT but I was told it wasn't used by any of our guys as they were told 911 was already called via cell phone. So if a SPOT was used I actually don't know, but I was curious about that. We got one in Dec. and I am very glad. I don't think if we used ours for someone else it would be our expense by any means.
Some in our group knew who she was. I am sure she has a road to recovery and wish her the best.
On another note, so glad we rebuilt the Warming Hut/Safety Shelter, that we have blankets and supplies there. Snowmobilers are a great group of people and always there to help each other.

Yes SPOT was used and the cordinants from spot were the best
FYI.... if you have a rino or any other gps, when you turn it on to get cords. you have to move a little after it comes on. they had a rino up there and when my brother in law turned it on to get gps cords it had the last location where it was on in it. so the rino cords. were wrong to begin with. just something to be aware of.
