I think far more important then brand is how it fits you with all your gear on. Many of the smaller packs made for our sport and winter sports dont have the adjustment found in a true backpacking type pack. Thus finding one that fits can be hard

I chose a Dakine Poacher, first by fit and it fits my needs. Hydration packs are nice, but even the covered insualted ones freze.....at least for me they do. I usally just pack water. I have tried blowing the water back into the bladder, eventually something frezes the line.

Agree with above^^^

How does the pack fit you and what are you going to be carrying in it.

If you can, bring all the stuff that you think you are going to carry, safety gear, first aid kit, snow shovel, extra goggles and gloves, extra clothing layers, emergency food etc... and what you will typically wear riding in some pretty foul weather, then go load that sucker up and throw it on your back (helmet too). If it seems to fit rite, go ahead and buy it. Will you ever carry a snowboard or ski's on you back? Will you ever need more space/carrying capacity or will this thing really carry all the stuff that you really should have on your back.

If this one "almost works" and there is another pack that maybe costs a bit more but really does what you want it to then buy the more expensive pack (or a cheaper one for that matter if it really works for you). Point is, I frequently fret over spending money on my "stuff" but once I have something that really works for me I have never looked back and regretted spending the money.

Oh ya, the hydration pack sip tubes pretty much all freeze eventually and then youre SOL and thirsty.

Oh ya, I have the smaller KLIM pack, bought it becuase it is well made and fits me fine, wish it was just a tad bigger and a few dollers cheaper, but all in all a well made pack.

I am a huge fan of KLIM but am not sold on the backpack. Main reason is I bought and sent back three probes until I found one that would fit in the hole on the bottom, and it only fits w/o the case. KLIM could not tell me what probe to buy that would fit, decent pack otherwise.

In my area the choices were limited. No one caries nothing.I bought a Klim because it was the only choice I had. After using it a couple of times I realized that it did not fit my needs and the fit was alot to be desired.Quality was topnotch however.Every one is different, but for me a need a trim and tight pack that will carry what I need without hanging up in the trees or throw off my balance. I ended up at backcountry.com; who has a great selection of packs and has a no question asked return policy if you do not like it....BTW everything they carry is on sale.

backpack

look up Backcountry Acess backpacks, they have some pretty nice stuff. i have one and love it, it has hydration, and carries alot of gear. i cant think of a shovel or probe that wont fit, but will see, just ordered a larger shovel and probe. i run the Stash BC and it is very comfortable, with 15 to 20 lbs in it i still forget its on. I love all of this companies equipment, backpacks, trackers, shovels, probes, thats what these guys ,do!!!

from what I herd on tv and mags the ABS is number 1. Its just like an air bag it inflates and as your going down it helps to keep you above the snow....but it cost $1000 but all you have to do is take a picture and send it to them and they will give you another for free. Also you can pick difrent sizes for puting stuff in to it.I think thats the best one.

I have a dakine helipro works great will carry everything I need and is not to big and bulky fits great hardly even know it is there I believe it has a spot for a hydration pack not sure cause I do not use one
