backorder blues (blows)

my '12 pro with 1100 miles sent the pto crank bearing through the motor on 1/13/13 (i was pretty surprised but no problem its got warranty). on 1/15/13 polaris told my dealer motors are on backorder until 1/26/12 (okay 2 1/2 weeks before i get my sled back is tolerable). a week later polaris pushed backorder to 2/1/13 ( sucks but oh well). yesterday (2/1/13) polaris pushed backorder to 2/15/13 (now this is unacceptable).
first of all polaris made the call to put a new motor in rather than part one together (something that would already be done). i know parting one together is more expensive but its the middle of winter.
second- why are motors on back order (i haven't heard a ton about motors shattin the bed)?
Third- i work my goat smellin arse off to support polaris and ride their product. i would think polaris would want to reciprocate some of this support and hard work.
i don't really want to go back to ridin doos (super stoked on the pros i've owned, cat and yamaha aint an option) but being out for over a month in the dead of winter is mothertruckin bullscat. a 4 year warranty aint worth a dang
if you cant ride during prime ridin season.
i know this post doesnt accomplish anything but im just super frustrated and wondering where all the motors are. how many of you know crank bearings dynamiting etc.?

I agree, the parts BO situation for Polaris parts has been on a steady decline for a while now.

Your dealer should be more aggressive with their Polaris Factory service coodinator to find a solution that will get you back on the snow quickly

I feel for you... you just want to ride and the time is ticking away.

.

Sucks for sure, I waited 8 weeks last year for an engine for my 11, Polaris definitely has a problem with parts and it is unacceptable

My dealer pulled a minor miracle on my new engine last year and got it in about a week if I remember correctly. I was also curious if they put a 12 motor in my 11, but I don't think they did. At the end of this season I will be approaching the 1500 mile mark on my second motor...tick tock

It is already vibrating horribly and I have a bad feeling it's not gonna last. I REALLY wish they were more reliable:face-icon-small-sad

I dunno. The trail sleds are starting to go now , seems to be an ever increasing number of "blown" threads over at HCS.

Riding partner lost the last two months of riding season last year waiting for back ordered engine parts. Yes there is still a problem there, the bitching is minimal so far because so far most have been under warranty. As these motors start to fail & cost $4000-$50000 out of pocket we will hear more & more. I guess that's the price to ride the best chassis. To be honest I'm pretty sure its not worth it anymore. Plenty of capable sleds out there without the serious issues and lack of care you get from PI.

Now let the bashing begin from the Polaris loyalists. I love my sled and ive been relatively lucky so far but every ride I wonder if this is the day it fails. That's not a fun way to ride. I think it's a joke they keep sugar coating the outside with all these trick parts & light weight goodies instead of addressing the real issue. IMHO

many failures result in part shortages. but with all the failures they've had you'd think they would ramp up parts production to keep thier customers happy. i'm with you jakey-boy when these go out of warranty and peeps are paying for what is probably the most expensive engine to replace you are going to hear a lot more people totally pissed!

A 3-4 or 5 year warranty is useless If a manufacturer can't back it up, It would suck to miss days like this. My buddy bought a left-over 12

thanks for the feedback. at least its under warranty considering there's $4300 in parts plus labor. i put 1600 miles on my 2011 pro and the only hick up was a tps. breakdowns are inherent to snowmobiling (not manufacturers) but theres a reason you buy current technology and warranty. more often than not riders end up paying to do r&d for the brand that they purchase.

Sorry to here about your troubles.Your dealers are not taking very good care of you guys, my dealer always gives me a demo sled when I need one.1030 trouble free miles on my 12.

I blew my '12 motor with less than 670 miles on it last weekend. Sounds like a skirt failure. Will see after tear down today for sure. I'm hearing the motors are backordered until the end of February at the earliest. Having a 09 Dragon in the past, I have a really bad taste in my mouth right now. At least I have a Cat still...

edit: Motor is torn down. Piston skirt failure on Mag side. Big chuck got into crank case and did some damage.

aeb is it still under warranty?

Nope. I did have a grand plan of getting an extended warranty and "sticking" it to Polaris with loads of warranty work...After I looked into the fine print on the extended warranty, that option didn't look so appealing. I could still end up paying thousands of bucks in a worst case scenario and you are at the mercy of an "adjuster" who probably doesn't have your best interest in mind. Now my plan is to hope to god my new engine lasts this season and then hopefully be able to scrape together enough play money to get Indy Dan to do his magic on it. It may not be as convenient, but it is still cheaper than getting a new sled and I have a lot of respect for a guy who will warranty an aftermarket modification. Time will tell though...

I'm convinced I will never buy an 800 polaris. They have NEVER had a reliable 800 motor it seems. I hope this year or next year they change it up, but if they don't when the time comes that a 600 wont cut it for me(that will be quite some time) I will be taking my money to one of the other 3 (currently leaning towards skidoo sadly enough...)

surprised your dealer isn't working a little harder, maybe it's not his fault thou. Cranks and cases are in stock at Pol as of this moment.1:26 central. We had a xp900 rzr that came with a case that only leaked oil when the motor was running and requested a shortblock but they made us do the case only; so if told the correct story I think Pol would let them rebuild the motor, that is I think that ,can't say for sure, If out of warranty SBT parts and short blocks are less expensive that mother poo and are very good stuff IMO.

Both AC and Poo went on an inventory diet years ago, and continue to tighten their investments. Extended warranties just magnify this issue - you are already a committed customer, and a successful method to help reduce the cost of warranties is to eliminate the inventory to support it. Now, customer service won't tell you this, and they want to help, but that's how the OEM's have been taught by external consultants. Different dealers do have seriously different influence with the OEMs, of course, and use this influence selectively by customer. Just the way it works. Yep, failure rates matter, too, but don't discount planned stockouts - we're not going to go anywhere else for a warrantied motor.

at least the customer support hotline staff is real nice. they make you feel warm and fuzzy about grabbing yer ankles.

I hear you. So far, the only issue with my Pro is the primary clutch breaking in half, but reading about all these issues has me concerned. I have not owned anything but Polaris since the early 80's and have thoroughly enjoyed all my Poo's. However, Doo has finally made a sled I enjoy riding with the XM, and if Poo doesn't step it up in the engine department, I may, sadly, be forced to jump ship. I honestly hope that day never comes.
