Backcountry snow reports for iPhone

I'm trying to find a good app for reporting backcountry snow conditions and weather forecasts for the iPhone. What have people been using? All the ones I can currently find are all ski resort specific. I was trying to find one that would report the snowtel sites or something with backcountry away from the resorts.

I thought about making one for the iPhone. I need to find a good service that stays up to date. It wouldn't have to be fancy, just quick updates that are accurate. If I ever get my arse in gear, I'll post info on it.

I'd pay $0.99 for that!

a must have app for the iphone sledder...mammut safety. gives you a clinometer (slope angle), an aspect compass (put your back to the slop and it will tell you which way it is facing, kinda chessy) and an altimeter. also gets you avalanche updates all over the world. best part about it is that it is free. if your in canada, the canadian avalanche association has an app for up to avy info.... keep us posted if you get that app going. although, if i get that app, its always gonna be overcast with no new snow in the kootenays!!!! such a selfish a-hole

Great ideas, I've been thinking about an all-in-one app for sledders. But until recently, it didn't seem like "our" group were huge iPhone users. Now it seems everyone is. Hmmmm....

i figure my phone probably saved my life last year a few times. really is nice to be able to access google earth, avy updates and all the other goodies. now if i had an iphone 4 i could get 720p hd footage as well....

Google Earth in the mtns with AT&T? Where do you ride?

nelson, bc. Bell mobility, beauty of google earth on the iphone, if you look at something when you have service. then when you loose service it saves what you were looking at. saved my butt a few times in terms of finding the right road to access the alpine.

Any thoughts to how the cell phone affects beacons? Something to thing about and try to remember when things go south.

x rated, that is a really good question. must find the answer, never seemed to affect it in any of the beacon searchs i did last year.(all practise thank god). to the avalanche thread i go

Might be a good idea to make an App for the Android OS as well...it wont be long before it overtakes the iPhone in numbers (more carriers, dozens of phones, open source, etc...).

Just downloaded ammut safety, pretty cool app!

I know there was thread I think in the Avy section on here about how different gadgets COULD affect a beacon signal. As I recall in Mike Duffys class he talks about some stuff affecting it but I can't recall.

I know the thread talked about I-pods, radios, maybe GPS and phone.

Definitly something to think about and try to find out about. I know I wouldn't wanna have to remember to turn my phone off during a search....nor would I want someone forget and have it mess up my signal from under the snow.
