backcountry guide frisco area

we are staying in frisco for a week and are looking for a guide or someone from the area who would show us around. anybody have any suggestions?
we are looking for backcountry/off trail riding and every place i call wont even talk to me if im not renting their sled......march 1st-8th. thanks!

skidoo- thanks for the reply....if you guys are willing and able to ride with us, we would love to! three fairly competent riders with mostly stock mountain 700's. whats the best way to get ahold of someone?

we will be arriving sunday the 2nd around noon, hoping to get settled in and make any final tuning adjustments if necessary. is there access to riding directly from frisco? we plan on riding all day on monday thru thursday, would u be interested in riding with us during the week? i have searched a little for access trails/maps, but havent come up with much, looks like breckenridge and vail trail systems are the closest, but nothing right in frisco.... we dont reallly want to trailer, unless that is the only way to access the offtrail.

I would be willing to bet you could meet up with some people in the Vail Pass parking. There is no riding right out of Frisco that I know of, but Vail Pass is 20 min. up the road and worth a couple days at least if you've never ridden there before. If worse comes to worse, just head there for the first day and then ask locals for the goods. You will find a week's worth no problem.

I agree... I would hit up Vail Pass for a few days... Plenty to keep you busy, and even better on the weekdays, as the weekend tends to get really crowded.

Breck has some decent trails.

If you are already out in the West, it is definitely worth a trip to the Flat Tops (about a 1 hour drive from Frisco)...

I would take one day and head up to Rabbit Ears. You won't be disappointed. You will be bored in Breckenridge after a day. Vail is fun, watch out for the xcountry skiers and the closed areas.

Check out coloradodirectory.com. It shows all the major snowmobile areas in CO, along with conceptual trail maps for each area.
You can't ride out of Frisco (well you can, there's a trail that goes to Copper mtn, but there's no off trail). Most places in CO are not ride in, ride out anyway and Frisco is a cool town (locals mostly, but some skiier traffic).
Within an hour of Frisco, you have Breckenridge(Tiger Run trail, leads to some good backcountry, but you gotta fight the rentals up and down the trail), Vail Pass, Leadville, WInter Park/Fraser, Flattops, Jefferson.
Within 2 hrs, Grand Lake, Rabbit Ears, Buena Vista.
The possibilities are endless. Frisco is a good central location to start from.

thanks a bunch, i really appreciate the information. so far im thinking maybe vail pass one day, possibly breck another.....maybe rabbit ears for one or two.....as far as the guide goes, i am familiar with navigation and map reading, gps, etc, but have never riden in this area, is it pretty easy to get around at vail, breck, etc? i dont mind riding without a guide, but in unfamiliar territory, its nice to have a local there to help out. does anyone have any reccomendations for a good back country guide/rider to show us around? about how many miles would it be to get to rabbit ears from frisco, and what is the best route? looks to me like hwy 9 back up to hwy 40, but thats gotta be a bit of a jaunt from frisco eh? what is the general location of the "flat tops" as mentioned above? thanks in advance,

Frisco to Rabbit Ears 1.5 hours dry roads, fill up in Silverthorne or Kremmling(5 cents more a gallon).NO SERVICES PAST KREMMLING. Park in Muddy Creek lot(bathroom)Explore, there are groomed trails that will get you to whatever you like, meadows ,hill climbs, boondocking. At Vail Pass you can ride groomed trail, meadow ride, hill climb, boondock and even ride to Redcliffe for food/:beer; (Mangos)You can ride right into town and park right in front of Mangos.Just obey the traffic laws.Breck/Tiger Rd,commercial tours first 5 miles then your on your own, must have beacon, shovel, probe and knowledge to use them.Tiger Rd(Breck)is some fun stuff, but be prepared if you go there .Don't want to scare you off from that area but.....check out the avy conditions before you venture too far off the beaten path Pete:)
