Back pressure on a apex

my friend wants to know if you need to have any back pressure on his stock apex? He want to cut off the muffler and dump the exhaust out the tunnel will this work?

i was thinking the same thing. did some reading and found yes you want some back pressure when not at full throttle. you can get some small mufflers to fit if you look, or just cut apart the stock muffler, sounds ok not too loud for the rider, not sure if it makes more power nor loss in weight (maybe 2lbs). and still has back pressure.

The back pressure of the pipe should be enough becuase a 4 stroke has exhaust valves which open and close mechanically at proper times and lets the gases escape. My apex and phazer both are virtually straight piped as they have flow thru mufflers. IF you want a tunnel dump exhaust check excells mountain lite exhaust for the apex. I have it and i couldn;t be happier. makes it sound a like a turbo too!:D

I cut open my muffler and gutted it and had noticable lack of throttle response. Not bad when you get above 3000RPM but low RPM is bad. I bought a chip for it and it helped alot. Back to normal, except for more HP!!!

i straight piped my apex tonight and it is so god damn loud.. tell him just to pull the muffler off and take it for a ride.. howly sh!t. louder than any 2stroke at wide open.. and ive ran a 2stroke tripple strait piped before. haha
