B.C. Sledder survives 25 meter fall into mineshaft

That story is mostly correct, but there are a few corrections

The sled did not fall into the mine shaft, it luckly stuck into the cornice that it hit.

And with that it still took 5 of us to get the sled out of the hole and in a safe place.

We were able to pull him up about 75ft to the vertical opening by the time S&R had gotten on site. At which time they took over and finished the extraction.

GOOD JOB TOADY. YOUR A HERO.

mine shaft

it's interesting how the media had this storey wrong, I was in Golden listening to CBC radio when this happened and the news repeatly reoprted that both rider and sled plunged into the shaft. Not that it matters now but it just goes to show that you can't always believe the news. Very good to hear that the fellow only broke his arm (if this is true).

There were three people in the shaft by the time S&R got there, two of who willingly climbed down the first 25ft to help lower rope and guide up the guy as we pulled him up. It is true that he broke his arm, as well as his leg but other than that nother but a few bruises.

I am very grateful for the assistance provided by everyone who showed up that afternoon. I was the guy down in the hole. My son and our friend were the ones who climbed down into the top part of mineshaft to guide the rope to me and start pulling me up.

I am home now and amazingly suffered only a broken arm, a broken ankle and heel, and some bruising.

It was a hell of a day and not one I would ever want to repeat.

Everyone was awesome. Thank you.

Glad to hear that you are home and healing! Just goes to show how important it is to be prepared and to ride with capable and trustworthy people. Your life may depend on it. :amen:

A chumm from a completely unrelated site shot me an e-mail letting me know about this. I figgered I'd find some thread on it here.

Glad all is reasonably well.

Ricky in Cooke has done this yrs ago as well, but a lot shallower hole and really messed up his tunnel/bulkhead.

It is really good when you ride with folks that you feel you could spend some time "in the trenches" with if it came to it. I feel that my crew is well prepared and level headed.
