Axys or pro?

The title pretty much says it all. My last sled was a 14 skidoo. I want to make the jump to a polaris. My question is how much better is an axys over a pro. Should I pick up a 13-15 pro for a better deal at the end of this season or wait till next season in hopes for a used axys for less than new cost? Thanks

i just purchased the 2017 axys and have not had a chance to run it yet but i would have purchased a pro if it weren't for the rebates on the new 2017 and 2016 for that matter. they are priced like most used 2016's right now, just have to pay dealer fees since tax is given cost for both. fwiw, the old pro engine also gave me pause. i couldn't see buying a used one and always wondering. though they were much improved over the early years of the cfi 800, they still weren't what many would consider reliable...especially when compared to the doo you're coming off of.

I rode my '14 Pro with a '15 Doo and '16 Cat before I bought the '16 Axys. I did so because I think the old Pro was a better riding sled than the others and figured the Axys would be better yet. I was right, the Axys is an AWESOME sled IMO. I rode my buddies new '17 Doo 850 yesterday back to back with my Axys. I am still convinced the Axys is a step or two ahead of Doo, even the 850's power wasn't that impressive.

All that said, my 1200 mile Axys lost a motor earlier this season for no real good reason anybody could find. 3 weeks down and a new motor under warranty and it would still be tough for me to switch.

So you recommend holding out for the axys I take it. I just don't want to buy a pro then hop on someone's axys and be like what did I do!

Levi, the Pro is a great chassis and when set up and clutched can be very close to the Axys. I've had a 13 and a 14 Pro which gave us no troubles. I now have two 2016 Axys, the 2.6x163 and the 3x163. They are easier to ride and seem to have better performance all around. I would highly recommend going the Axys route unless budget is a factor and the savings are substantial. Enjoy! Once you get used to riding one you will be amazed at how enjoyable riding a sled with your legs close together really is over your Doo...

The Axys definitely has a stronger motor. There are some nice features on the Axys like the easier throttle pull, electronic oil pump (Pro has a crappy bar with plastic ends) and electronic valves. The handle differently from one another. The Axys comes over very easy and doesn't work well for someone who is "lazy" when they ride. The wash out points of side hilling are different. Sometimes I think the Pro is better on turn and wash outs. But overall, the Axys is a much better sled.

Thank you everyone for the replies! Jim since you have both the 2.6" and 3" tracks, which do you like to ride more? Is the 3" that much better to pass up on a 2.6" sled? I want to hopefully own this sled for a while so I don't want to regret not getting something because I didn't wait for it.

I rode a buddies new / carryover Axys, and for sure the front end seems to float better. With that said, I don't know if I would turn down the right deal on a Pro if you came across one.

Thing is you could buy a used Pro and add turbo for the price of an AXYS. So many choices

When I got my first pro i was blown away how well they handled. As I've said for 20 years when a new sled came out "how can it get better than this?"

Fast forward 3 years to 2016 - got an axys and it felt good. More power for sure. But the pro still felt good as I remembered it.

A few weeks ago a buddy got stuck in a hole so I rode his 14' pro out - and I couldn't believe how heavy it felt compared to the axys! Throttle wasn't as snappy, harder to pull over, and it didn't lift out of the snow as easily.

Hi Levi, personally I really like the 3" as it is geared lower which I like for tree riding. It also has the upgraded Walker Evans shocks which are quick and easy to adjust dampening. My buddy has the 2.6 which he has set up beautifully with the TKI belt drive to gear it down. If keeping a long time try to get the snowcheck version with painted tunnel, a-arms etc.

Does the painted tunnel just help with reducing snow build up? From things I'm reading I'm leaning toward a 2.6 axys and eventually doing the tki system. Or pro if I can find one for the price I'm willing to pay for an ever so quickly seemingly depreciating chassis and eventually putting a 2.6 track on it. Haven't seen much for axys available lately and don't want to spend more than 9k. Not sure if any will be in that price point this season but maybe by next?

Mountain. Trees. Not crazy into big hill climbs. When I had my skidoo I worked more hours and never got to ride as much as I liked which is why I stopped riding before last season and sold it. I was not able to go to the places I wanted to and do some traveling around. Now with my current job I get days off so I'm excited to ride as much as I can and do a couple trips a season.

I'd rather ride a stock Axys than a turbo pro as well. Had 2 pros and loved them at the time, but Axys is a level up for sure....it's just more fun and less effort. The pro does hold a sidehill just as go tho, and is a little less squirrelly climbing rediculously steep sketchy stuff.

Oh man. Just looked at the axys at the dealer since I haven't yet. Wow they look good. Also so noticeably taller. I'm swaying axys for sure.
