Axys Engine Review

Would like to hear from people with lots of miles on their sleds. Pros and cons of the engine and any issues with engine. Trying to decide if I should keep my sled one more year since it's got a new engine or pull the trigger on the 2017 or a friends 2016.

I've got around 600 on mine and going up. Not a single hiccup other than a mal adjusted TPS causing idle issues that got fixed under warranty. Loving every minute of it!

700 on the one I was riding yestersay and the engine is perfect. No engine jobs on Axys at our dealer whatsoever - we have one fellow with almost 2000 mountain miles and engine is running strong. Noticeably more power and response throughout the rpm from a 2015 - as much power as any other stock sled out there for sure - and more responsive. Super stoked on this sled.

Have 12 and 13 PRO's and now a 16 AXYS. The power is night and day difference. After riding the AXYS and getting on the PRO's, they feel like 600's. Huge difference.

700 miles and today mine would bog on the top and check engine light would come on. I was getting err code 520327, not sure what that means. Seemed like exhaust valves not opening.

X3, the Pro feels like a dog after riding the Axys.

200 flawless miles on mine, I have not heard of a single 800HO engine failure which is impressive.

They are out there. First trip west lost left side a arms. Second trip lost motor with 202 miles. Connecting rod bearing blew. Towed home. Sucked balls. Day two of a 4 day trip. Just bad luck I guess. I will say that those two days were the most fun I have had on the snow.

Not only does it run a LOT harder than either my '13 or '14 Pros but it is so much smoother. 10-12 miles of trail in is much more fun, the new motor RIPS!

I am so happy I took a ****ty trade number for my Pro to get the Axys. Don't wait if you don't have to. The new sled is much better. I think I am around 700 mountain miles ~60 hrs. Snow has been great and I have been running the snot out of it every weekend since mid November.

very difficult starting problems, 4 trips to parking lot, only got out of lot 1 time, because it wouldn't start despite much troubleshooting...dealer couldn't figure problem either, good dealer, probably tps or ecu programing, but never got a handle on it...got my money back, moved on...:face-icon-small-sad

The motor is more responsive and seems to perform well and make power to 8400 rpm. It really pulls in the low to mid part of the power band unlike the cats and doo which make more power mid to top.
To me, its not really the motor but the chassis that stands out over the Pro. It balances on one ski like crazy, rolls up with a lot less of the planted feel of the Pro in lower snow conditions.
I'm at 450 miles and not a single hiccup.

Check all the electric connections in the Velcro pouches above the primary clutch and all others in that general region. Take apart, dry out, put a little di-electric grease (very little) on. Also, orientate the connector in a way that water would run out of it..as opposed to collect in it...if that makes sense. Seen that a couple times and it's a quick easy fix.

Sorry for thread derail

So far this has been an impressive motor. We have a bone stock 800 Axys and a BMP Stage 3 800 Axys. Both motors are running strong with zero problems. The motor seems to like modification as well. We ran the 2nd one through all the paces on the Dyno and its rode hard every time were out. The race crank really helps it spool up quickly and is stronger than the old stock Pro crank. The previous 800 motors from 2013 were better than previous models and this one is better yet.
-Easier throttle pull by having electric oil pump
-3 D mapping on exh valves with less maintenance
-Improved pistons
-improved cooling and faster warm ups
-no local dealers reporting problems with motors
-lower quick drive ratio is actually easier on the motor and clutching than last Pro's making it run cooler with less effort (strain) on motor.
-easy weight reduction with aftermarket muffler and battery (elec start)
What more can you ask for?!
Better water proof electrical connections is all I can think of for the motor even though I haven't personally had any problems with them. As Jaynnelson suggested add a little dielectric grease to the inside of the connections.
As far as other codes go, this motor really likes to rev quickly (lite weight crank), make Sure you have enough clutch weight to keep from setting off codes. It happens so fast you won't even notice it over rev'ed anytime the track gets loose (jumping, loose snow, icy hill etc).

Parting thoughts: Stock Axys motor has noticeably more power and is a "fun" improvement over previous Pro's.
Adding quick and easy (Any back yard yahoo like me can bolt a pipe on) Mod's like I did turn this into an adrenaline junky's best friend. It flat out rips with some simple Mods that you can easily add more stages as your budget allows.

Like Jaynelson mentioned, there are a couple of relays that are taped to the cross member just above the y-pipe that have been known to get water in them. My dealer told me to take them off and put dielectric grease in the prevent issues. I'm wondering since there are so many electrically controlled components (exhaust valves) that this may be the issue. I still have to say the sled still absolutely rocks!!
