Just like the title says. I'm glazing belts extremely fast. Both OEM Polaris belts and Gates carbon belts. Already gone through 3 belts in under 400 miles. Any ideas?

Few things...

1) I'm boosted at 5psi. However, I was glazing belts prior to boost.
2) Currently primary clutch setup is 160/340 (green/pink) spring, 74s @ 8500 feet. hitting 8400-8500 quickly and consistently.
3) Secondary clutch setup black/green spring with a 42 helix.
4) I do wash my belts prior to use.

My clutch was out of alignment which is now fixed. Deflection is within spec. Is there anything else to look for? Anything I can do to the sheaves or belts to help with this?

This is where I would start had .060 clearance on mine to begin with reshimmed it to .015 and been excellent no slipping or glazing 550 miles and clutch is spotless and belt is like new yet

Thx AK Throttle and wisboy - I think you guys are onto something. It would make sense its glazing if out of spec with respect to sheave clearance as the clutch would pickup more inertia before impacting the belt hence the "burn" or "glaze".

With that primary spring is that motor revving up high before engagement? We found gearing down helps too.

Engagement is pretty solid - 4200ish. Remember, I'm ("lightly") boosted so I need to run a firmer primary...

Depending on brand of weights you are using can change the clearance as well. Needs to be set up with the weights you are using. I know MTX are way different than the stock weights. Have to reshim primary clutch for proper clearance.

From what you have there I would say that your secondary spring is not stiff enough and you are getting slippage. A Team black/green spring is 140/220. That's less then the stock spring rate, (155/222). Try the team black white, (160-260) I think you will have better luck that way. With big power you need more spring pressure to hold it on the clutch.

Sorry - I believe it is black/lime green. (Its the stock silber clutching)

Running 10 series weights (10-74s). I'll take a look at clearance tonight. I think thats it.

The Silber clutch is working well for me as far as belt life. Just make sure you clearance is correct.

Also I am using the dual helix from Silber.

Well, blew another 2 belts this weekend. (Polaris belt and gates 45C) Anyone have any other ideas? Something is up...and remember, I blew my first belt in under 200 miles sans boost.

I'm also running the silber setup and am burning belts. Really seems like clutch heat is a problem I blew one last sunday and another again today. The one today was a used one I had on the shelf while I waited on my new belt to come in. I went with Gates this time.

Did you find your problem? Check clutch alignment? What about an MTNTK blow hole? Would that help or is it just proper clutch alignment? Clutch alignment tools seem pretty ridiculous to buy at $100+ for the axys. I am tempted to just take it to the dealer to have the work done.

I'm a little worried that at some point taking my secondary off that I may have lost one of the inner shims. I found one on the floor while putting everthing back together with the new track that had stuck to the secondary when i pulled it off. I don't know what the chances are that there was another one that had stuck without me knowing.

The snow has been good here and I do like the throttle, so the possibility of it just being a heat issue is real..

Some good news and some bad news.

Good news is I solved the belt problem to some extent utilizing a steeper helix and lighter primary weights coupled with an almond spring and a stiffer secondary spring. Problem for me was the secondary wasn't "grabbing" the belt.

To add, keep that belt deflection in check. If its loose, you'll burn the crap out of belts.

Bad news is, if you are running a turbo and often wide open in deep snow, heat will be a problem to some extent (no matter what). So far I haven't blown a belt in 2017 - but I have a sneaking suspicion I will be soon!

Can you post a picture of the stationary sheave face on your primary. Just curious.

Sure - actually on a new sled this season with the same setup more or less. (155 track vs 163 only difference)

I'll grab one tonight.
