Avy vest

I remember some talk on here a while back an avy airbag vest, any news on this?

It would change the way I ride because it looks as though you can't have a backpack on. If they were sub $700 they might get a ton of sales as the ABS packs haven't dropped below $1000 yet.

If you cant wear a backpack then this idea is basically a bust. Who rides in the backcountry without a pack? Maybe if the vest inflated more in the front or sides?

I do agree that there needs to be a more competitive pricing on ABS gear. A good self inflating PFD runs around 200$ add a decent pack and mark up seems 500$ should be a more reasonable amount. Still not really sure on how the come up with a 1200+$ price tag. One company to come up with a 500$ option should be able to crush the market and still make money on sheer volume. shrug.......

One of the hidden costs on these are MANUFACTURER's LIABILITY INSURENCE.

I used to manufacture SCUBA gear and I am hear to tell ya, that can KILL YOUR COSTS.

with a vest you can still carry all your gear you normally have in a pack. ive used a vest the last 2 years, switched all my gear from the pack to the vest.
things i like about the vest - the weight of your gear is more centered on you, not all hanging off the back. also, items that you need frequently throughout the day you put in the front pockets and you can grab em quick and easy without having to take off your pack. i like a vest system much better than a pack now.

the avy vest is designed after the ogio vest i wear. you still have all the pockets and storage. the floatation balloon comes out of a pocket on the rear/upper portion of the vest.

I have to carry a ton of gear when im guiding. We have always put it in a dry bag and straped it on the tunnel. Works good! Plus for thoes of you that must climb, just takes a second to unstrap the bag and leave it at the bottom. How many of you take your backpack off to climb a hill? Most of the time you don't even know the dry bags there at all. I like this vest idea, not nearly as bulky as the ABS in my opinion.
