AVY SAAAVYY....lets hear your techniques

after completeing the avy I course a couple weeks ago, I feel like I have alot better understanding of snowpack and how it changes for good or bad.....but I wanna hear some of your insight/input on what you do when riding for analyzing and making a determination if an area is safe to ride or not. there are alot of great techniques and ideas so lets share them.

There are many things to look for, but the three main things I look at are:
1 - Recent snowfall. How much and how long ago?
2 - Wind Loading. Has it been windy? Where has the wind deposited the snow?
3 - Slope/Aspect. Is the slope steep enough to slide and has it seen much sun?

Again, those are only the first three things I think of.

What are the posted avalanche conditions?

Has the sun been hitting the hills?

Where is the run-out zone, and am I in it?

Another interesting method is to listen to the avy report for your area if you have one.
Then decide if you think you are smarter than the experts.
If so then good luck!

Cap you are a bigger smart a$$ them me....I was nice to have finally meet you and I am game to make a trip SE WA for those little bright things:D

Avy reports

Slope aspect, direction, and size.

Terrain and runout.

Even then, by assuming that any slope will slide, it will keep your senses keener in case it actually does. This process has helped keep me from being in a slide for several years now. Never get complacent.
