On our way up to do some 'docking in the trees in a place I never would have thought could have done this, It reminded all of us how destructive these can be in these conditions. Wet heavy snow slid and took out 2' diam trees and large rocks. This was at skate today and we had just missed it, lucky. Turned around, loaded up and went home. Very powerful.
I din't get a pic of the top of the mountain where the thing started, but for those who know the area, the peak at High Rock; the steep part just before you get to top when going up the road. We were a 1/2 mile or better from the fork in 84.

looking up

looking at it from the trail

looking down

looking across the trail

When I watched the video in the general section of the guy that was skinning up faces and skiing down in the backcountry it really made an impression on me. He apparently had contributed some of the most significant content worldwide on the study of avalanches. He’s dead. Really glad you’re ok. If one of the foremost experts in the world missed the read then it can happen to anyone.

I feel good about stayin home this weekend and working on the race car..It's just not the right time to ride right now.

Stay safe everybody and live to ride another day..:)

from the looks of the pic taken "looking across the trail", did it completely wipe out the road??

Thanks for the info

Great pictures and great info.
Not sure from your description, was the slide on the highrock road? Or was it on the 84 road near the highrock turn off? There are a couple bad spots on both. We ride up there alot (3 out of the last 4 weekends). More than one person has scoffed at the Avy terrain up there. I think I know about where this is. About a week ago there was a thread on this forum about trails through Avy areas. I listed the trail through near Highrock as my vote.

1/2 mile or so past the Highrock turn off on your way up. 84 may or may not be ok. I suspect this is a fairly normal slide path but just not this massive.

Skate creek was the location.

I have seen a few like that at mt. st. helens. pretty incredible. thankfully nobody was in them
