Avy near miss Catherine's pass

Looking at this, did he get bounced off his sled and covered right at the end of the tail out?

saw that on the news the other night, alot of that area is private land and also forest land, one of the property owners up cartiff fork ownes a ton of land up there, use to ride it with him alot in the spring time.

Actually this chute is right between Brighton and Alta down the other side of Catherine's pass from Dry Fork. Not private but def off limits to motorized

i dont know youd be surprised whats private up there, cant go off the map the forest service gives you,its not accurate:face-icon-small-win

That area is part of the watershed and off limits to motorized vehicles. i can't comment on the land ownership. what i'm surprised about is that it broke out when he was on the way down and putting much less force on the slope. maybe he found a thin spot but he sure got lucky that it didn't throttle him on the way up or in the high mark.

That broke pretty deep! The watershed designation of salt lake county mtns is a load of crap. Needless to say that area is off limits to public use of ohv's.

Show me the map showing it off limits. That is not a drainage for Big Cottonwood and would not be part of the area closed off for watershed. Not saying its not closed off, but would like to see the map.

There is a sign at the top of Catherine's pass saying No Motorized Vehicles Beyond this Point but I heard a rumor that in heavy wind that sign gets blown over... I also heard rumors that there are some really fun pulls down there AND that you can make really good friends with guys on skis touring if you ride down there

I know a guy who skis back there and they do not appreciate sleds over there.

On a side note, your buddy must have a death wish climbing those chutes in these conditions, wish I was on his policy!!

water shed is total crapp.ive been dealing with that bs for years total crap, never had one water shed ticket hold up in court, just another way for our beloved government to try and control people, buy the way there was a property owner in that group of snowmobilers and yes he wet his paints:face-icon-small-hap

it does drain into big cottonwood. And there is a mix of private and public land.

General rule: stay out until ski season is over, then no one cares. Cops wont patrol as much if skiers arent complaining.
