Regretably I heard there was one dead and they are not releasing any names at this time. Please be careful in the backcountry guys especially after a big snowfall like we had. Also heard one died in Enderby...................
4 buried in total 3 partially and the one that didn't make it was down about 4 meters. Site was the first bowl if you go in the back way up the creek. We went right by the avalanche site in the morning because it didn't look stable and the other group of 14 must have followed us up and started playing on that bowl. We made the loop and found out at the parking lot in the afternoon what happened. By then everyone was out and search and rescue were on their way in to recover the body. Thoughts and prayers from our group go out to the guys two boys that were sledding with him yesterday and the rest of the family.
Does anyone know the co-ordinates of the Hassler parking lot? I am trying to find it on google earth. I should be able to track the trail from there and then post the avy site and mark a couple of danger spots we noticed.
My thoughts & prayers to the families and friends.
I heard of this morning-posted in24hour Campfire Hunting forum under Canada postings. It made me sick. I had friends go out by Powder King this past weekend hooking up with friends from Quesnel. I'm making calls to calm my nerves-as we are from NW Alberta.
