Avy fatality

Always good to remember to dig a pit and do some snow analysis.

I got hazed on this site a couple of years back for saying this and that sledders cover too much ground to be digging pits......I say, all the more reason.

When I board bc, it is a little easier to manage because generally hitting one decent then move to another and dig another pit depending on aspect and terrain. This is all very slow compared to sledding and i can take advantage of cues- whoomfing, feactures. You may see afracture on a sled, but maybe not (moving too fast to catch it). I don't think I will ever hear a whoomf on the sled(stupic can) At the very least, analyze snowpack on different aspects. Don't just blindly trust the rose.

Stay safe out there fellas and remeber to practice finding a beacon every once in a while. Try to make it real. Have a buddy bury a beacon while you are out of sight. Then come up on the scene and try to treat it real. Have your buddy act like a party you don't know maybe have him act panicked. Try to create some duress. Put him on the clock.

Make the rescue effort automatic. Mistakes happen no matter how much you prepare and analyze snowpack. Lets stay safe out there folks.

BTW we are in high danger across the north right now. Have fun, be safe.

Agreed.

I always hate to hear of avalanche fatalities, especially after this year.

Hearts out to the family and friends of the guy that was killed.
