Avy death Indian Creek Wy

I heard from my brother that it was a I guy we both knew. His name is Bart Weeks. Its to bad this happened. Two other guys were killed close to this area last year. Be careful and ride smart.

Thoughts and prayers to his family! :brokenheart::rose:

Last year we lost 3 men in that area. (I believe you are thinking of the same people except there was 3 killed, not 2). Very scary!!!

Ride safe people!!

My wife and I were just talking about the avy reports for the year and how things were decent....not too many in MT and WYO this year.
DANG.

My thoughts are with his family.

watch out

I went a week ago friday before we got hit with these last storms, and we were witness to several smaller slides. Breaking off a foot or so of the new stuff. Im thinking they got close to 20 inches of heavy snow since, and the Indian creek area got dumped on.

I got a text from my neice Friday telling me how much she missed me
and loved me.. I thought it was odd... It turns out Bart's son and her
are close friends... So sad....:brokenheart:
I have known Bart's wife for many years, she is a teacher in Ririe...
My heart goes out to her and to their children as well..

I am just at a loss, there has been too many of these this year...

This is always sad news to hear. We ride that area a lot. Does anyone know where in Indian Creek this happened or if they had avy gear?

There have been quite a few big natural slides in there this year because of the snowpack.

I use google earth quite a bit, and thought it might be helpful to keep track these slides. It seems like the slides occur a lot in the same areas. If we could find a way to track them, perhaps we could be more aware of the inherent risks that are out there.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I hope with this type of information we could avoid some of the risks as we head into the back country.

Here's a link to the google earth post.

Edit:
Great News! I missed this for my area. This already exists! The dates don't go back far, but here is the link.

I hope others find this helpful as well as they consider where to ride.

This is a great idea is there somebody at Snowest that could put something like this together?

Bart was my wifes aunts brother. this one hit pretty close to home. we all know there are places you ride and places you shouldnt, but lets face it, every time you squeeze the throttle you are puttin yourself at risk, we dont need to say how people shouldnt be riding in these areas, avalanches kill people on the trails too.

Indian Creek is always unstable regardless of the time of the year.

OT

You are correct.

Why must you continue to come on this site posting useless info?? Idiot!!!

Well the dude is right on this one.

^^^^ It's clear you have never been to Indian Creek ^^^^

Everytime I ride into Indian Creek I see slides....there has never not been a time that I haven't seen a broken slide in there....there are chutes after chutes just off the single track trail that slide over and over. I haven't ridden there since 2006, because the avy danger has been too high since then.....when avy danger is high I refuse to ride in there. There wasn't a chance in hell I was going back there this year. I know of Bart....think I have been around him a few times. I am not going to get into whether or not he should have been in there. Some people are just willing to take more risks than others. Rest in peace Bart...may your family be taken care of.
