Avy Death in ID

It has started.

From the NWAC report:

In several recent releases, slides were remotely triggered from adjacent and different exposure slopes, which indicates that fracture propagation within the fragile underlying and very faceted snowpack is extending long distances and remains quite reactive to added stresses.

This means you can trigger a slide WITHOUT EVEN CLIMBING THE SLOPE!!!

Read the reports and pay attention to your terrain.

Do the colors represent level of avy danger? If not, is it possible to do such a thing?

KMMAC
The number and color doo represent the danger level on a scale of 1 to 5.
Most avalanche deaths happen at the considerable level=3
many happen in the moderate levels
many also happen in the high and extreme levels but the news media and many natural triggers warn of the dangers, so we start riding with our avy awareness antenae on at that point.
Sounds like this avy happened in the afternoon which is in itself usually a warming trend. My best guess is that this happened on a leeward (downwind) side of the slope, but I wouldnt bet on it.
If you have questions, the best thing you can doo is to take an avalanche awarenss class
Always check the AVY forecast for the area before you ride

low=1
moderate=2
considerable=3
high=4
extreme=5

Ya,, I didn't read enough of the info. on the avy site. Just did an at a glance look. Am fully aware of the risks and what to look for. Main thing people don't pay attention to is weather conditions BEFORE they go ride in the mountains. Saw this situation coming two weeks ago with all of the deep freeze we just went through.
