Avy danger at Baker?

I am not to good at avy forcast reading in its current form. what ele. should we ride at BAKER on 4-30-14? Should we stay in the trees? Your experience would be welcome. Thanks!

Avy danger is high above, at, and below tree line right now, cornices will be breaking free and running out, the sun will get the hills moving. However you can start in the trees in schriebers meadows get a feel and carefully work your way around the mountain with out getting in any terrain traps, and stay out of any steep draws. Keep an eye out for what's above you at all times, choose your routes carefully and you can enjoy most of the mountain, don't get greedy, brave, or stupid.

I also would try and stay off the glacier unless you are good at reading crevasses. Not trying to crack any jokes either. Play it safe and if you don't know the area I recommend waiting for a guide. If it works out Thursday may be my day in the sun

The current NWAC avy forecast is "high danger", and there have been a lot of reports of recent natural releases. Add to this the fact that there is going to be a record warmup over the next few days and all signs indicate you should stay off avy terrain, especially during the hottest part of the day. Some will ignore that guidance, and they might get lucky, but the penalty for being wrong is severe.

Here's the current NWAC forecast for Wednesday:

New snowfall received over the past week, and especially the most recent snowfall from Saturday night and Sunday, may quickly become unstable with strong sunshine and warming expected to continue Wednesday. The recent snowfall will be very susceptible to strong spring solar effects and rapid warming Wednesday. This expected weather following closely after such heavy recent spring snow storms, should lead to a significant avalanche cycle and a generally high avalanche danger in most areas, especially direct sun exposed terrain.

Natural or triggered avalanches should be likely to very likely Wednesday and travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Some of these slides may become large and potentially destructive in force. Expect very dangerous avalanche conditions.

These expected very dangerous avalanche conditions are likely to persist through the week with the warmest weather of the season expected Thursday and possibly Friday.

4 of us were up at Baker yesterday and the avy danger is growing with the warm weather. Side hilling on steep slopes broke away avys.
Stay off the untraveled parts of the glacier. One of our riders broke through snow bridge over a crevasse and fortunately did not go all the way through into the crevasse but his sled tried and we tied a rope to it and was able to get it out since it didn't drop out of site. There was no evidence that the crevasse was there is my point. The day could have ended very differently if the sled went down any farther with its rider.

I was all over the mountain yesterday and didn't run into anything that was too disconcerting. There was some sluffing off of railroad.
