I think they are bad everywhere right now. I am glad that it slid and nobody was hurt, now hopefully we can get some stable weather conditions. But, right now pretty sketchy. Worst I have seen.

hey, I usually climb between those rocks!

seen slides on that face before (4 years ago was the last time I saw that face slide) but never that wide, wow.

What did the face to the left (east of the crossover saddle, N side) look like? That usually goes first. That one went HUGE that same year & nearly took out a couple sledders.

That didn't go while I was there. However, in the third picture the bowl in the background that we normally ski went huge slid on both sides of the rocks!!!! I didn't get a picture of that one. It went from the cornice all the way to the first meadow where we normally pick up. It was the biggest I have seen. Fortunately we were in a safe zone when it went.

It only took the sound of my sled to go. As soon as I crested over the saddle the whole slope went.

wow, thanks for the heads up. This next storm coming in is just gonna make the conditions worse. Be careful out there and wear your beacons!!

From a recent CAIC report .. it's going to be dicey for a while.

The culprit in all cases is faceted snow. The early season snow rotted away in November. It's weak, sugary depth hoar and facets now. More recent storms have laid down a slab of harder snow on top. The slab is now topped with soft, recent snow so it does not feel like a "hard slab." It is a hard slab, and the combination of stiffer snow on weak facets is proving potent. The remote triggers, extensive cracking, and large whumpfs are good evidence. The recent mild weather is not effecting the rotten snowpack foundation, and we will be dealing with this problem for some time to come.
