Avvy Conditions

Just a reminder folks...

The weather is going to get crazy over the next few days and along with it the Avvy conditions. Remember that wind and lots of snow are generally a very deadly combination.

Please be sure to check the weather and avvy forecasts before you go. (NWAC: http://www.nwac.us/forecasts.htm) Plan your routes appropriately and stay safe.

I know we have been waiting for this but play it safe and come home!!

good reminder, Travis - thx

Friday and Friday night: CONSIDERABLE avalanche danger
above 5 to 6000 feet and MODERATE below slightly
decreasing
Saturday morning: little change in the avalanche danger
Saturday afternoon: gradually increasing avalanche
danger, especially lee slopes
Saturday night: significantly increasing avalanche danger
becoming locally HIGH on lee slopes above 5000 feet and
CONSIDERABLE elsewhere
Sunday and Sunday night: HIGH avalanche danger above 4 to
5000 feet and CONSIDERABLE below, gradually decreasing
late Sunday

Thanks Travis-

One additional observation that I have noticed is that the extreme cold has made a difference in how the snow reacts. Meaning a lighter drier snow than the usual that we get. Just be careful and don't assume that the pack will hold like it usually does and that as conditions change and we get more on top, these dry layers will remain for the season. Those that have taken an avy class know what that means.

It's gonna be a fantastic season!! Have fun and be safe!

see ya on the hill
