Avalanches?

you could almost say yes. im' sure there is not any evidence which provides substantial concrete support towards it. but every one knows that cutting a sidehill while trenching it will probably make matters worse.

you could say yes because when a guy gets stuck and trenches it on a climb, some buddies immediately assume to go ride up to him and help him dig it out. that is just more added weight though.

yeppers. if you are treading the line on how much you can cut a slope before it slides.......you better have life insurance.

Bingo.

"Well the avalanche conditions are high, buuuuuuuutttt I have an avalanche bag and my sled does not trench that much so I should be ok"

If conditions are high and it does not feel right to you...just stay off it..No highmark is worth your life.

from avy classes, NO
I don't think it would dictate between a hill sliding or not if it does in fact have any small effect

I was in Grand Lake when the avvy killed 2 riders on Little Gravel over New Years. When we heard about the deaths, I thought "They asked for it with all the snow and wind over the last few days, the idiots were highmarking!" We rode up to look at the site next day, I wanted to show our crazy sons what can happen when you are stupid. Gravel Mtn on the right, Little Gravel on the left. No sign of avvy. We rode thru the trees between the two and found the spot. It was a HILL, no cornices, wasnt that steep, no sign of danger. I would not of thought twice about playing on this hill. Avvy was maybe 75 yards across and 150 yards long. Standing in the holes where they dug the guys out was a eye opener. I have been riding for 25 + years but I sure woke up. Be Careful!

Safe to say.....If the trench size is the deciding factor of slide or no slide....you shouldn't be on that hill.
