The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center has issued a backcountry Avalanche Warning for the mountains near Cooke City. Heavy snowfall and strong winds have created dangerous avalanche conditions. BOTH natural and human triggered avalanches are very likely. Avoid even small road cuts as well as avalanche run out zones.
There is a ton of new snow...more than the SNOTEL is showing. Great riding in meadows and low angle trees and great downhill powder turns. Looks like more snow is on the way this weekend. We triggered a good size slide from the flats on the way to Sheep Creek on Tuesday. Other riders triggered a small one near Round Lake yesterday and saw another.
