Avalanche Fatality

Prayers with the family. Seems there is alot of slides everywhere you go in the west right now. Everyone needs to be smart and stay alive. It's not worth it for an early season highmark.

I know this group personally and the entire group was sitting at the bottom of the hill taking a break and it gave way halfway up. He simply didn't have time to get out of the way of the avalanche.

Very sad to see. I hate to see people dying for simple lack of knowledge and/or preparation.

Please have the proper avy gear, and do not stop in runout areas.

I also personally know the riders. It happend just like mentioned above. I was actually suppost to go with them yesterday when it happend but backed out at the last minute. I feel very lucky. Rip Joel.

The avalanche occurred about 1:41 p.m. Thursday on West Mountain near Cascade.

Joel Barrie, 24, along with several others was riding a snowmobile near Rock Lake when he was caught in an avalanche that buried him and another rider. The other rider was located and dug out within a few minutes.

Barrie was found buried under about five feet of snow and beneath the snowmobile he was riding, according to a release from the Valley County Sheriff's Office.

Barrie's body was recovered approximately 45 minutes after the avalanche. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Out of local paper!

My Condolences.

It is sad to hear of a fatality.
Makes you wish time could reverse.... but it can't.:(

It is too early to make assumptions.

I hope everyone takes at least an AST1 to reduce the risk.

Ride safe everyone.

I am very sorry to hear this my thoughts go out to his family and freinds.
Where did this happen? I know some towns have been mentioned but none of them are familar to me. US Canada? what state or province?

Our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Extremely unfortunate.
This happened just west of Cascade, Idaho on the West Mountain Range.
Be careful!!!

Never '*** U ME" anything!

I was going to go on this ride with my friends.
There was no "High marking".

Trust me this was extremely hard on everyone there. We do not need members of this forum assuming there is some blame to be assigned. Half of the group that was on this ride are World class riders. Some are sponsored riders of the big 4. This was just a break-in ride for their 2010 sleds.

This young man had just started riding and was excited about learning a new sport and making new friendships.
We are very fortunate that only one was rider taken! Very lucky.
