Avalanche Danger - Extreme!!

Just wanted to let everyone know - a friend of mine did 3 tests in 3 areas (VP, Loveland, and I forgot where else) and found what he described as the worst snow possible in terms of avy danger. He said the very first layer was literally grains of snow balls the size of BB's. He said he's staying away from any area that has even the slightest rish of an avalance. Take it for what it's worth. Be safe out there.

i agree . we rode trujillo meadows sat .there is a small hill at the end of the meadow i never saw any kind of avy in 8 years of riding there BUT a section of the cornice dropped so i agree keep a watchful eye

Dang, flashy red death warning! As said, the several feet we had early season has turned into a compact layer of ice ball bearings. Not a good base to start the season on. The big road cut banks were sliding on up at Cameron on Saturday on that crappy base. The wind has been howling up there today. I'll be driving over in the AM before light but I'll def put a bino on the big slopes to see what's come down. When diamond peak slides on the south it takes them days to clean the mess off the road and it's up to Laramie and around that way. Beats driving down on rat race run though :)

I was thinking about that at work this afternoon, went to CAIC then saw the flashy red and yellow...

Wear a beacon, ride safe

Absolutely, but more importantly, make sure those you ride with have a beacon and shovels as well. After all, it's going to be their assets that get YOU out. If we all ensure eachother have what we need, we'll be good.
