avalanche backpacks

I am looking at avalanche packbacks and would like to know if anyone has either of the following or any sugestions as to which pack to buy. I am looking at the ABS Vario 15L, ABS Escape 15L, and just heard about the Snowpulse Life Bag 30. This is for sledding. Looking for some help on this one?:confused:

just got the ABS escape 15..first time pack wearer as well...am very happy with it..it is light and comfortable..forgot I had it on after the first 10 minutes.seems to be enough room inside for extras..mine holds my shovel and probe. looks like you could put some snacks, spare shirt, gloves, goggles as well...talk to snowbigdeal on here ..he is a dealer and can fix you right up..

hey they are both good bag i have worn a abs bag for 2 years now and love it
they both have the feature and depending on the person the abs blows off out both side of ur back the snow pulse blows off around ur head they say to prevent any neck damage they are both a safe bet

Either one of these packs would be a great purchase, and I plan on buying one myself.....but just remember that neither one is a replacement for education and intelligent thought process. They don't make you invincible, and they don't reduce avalanche hazard. The very best result you could ask for from wearing one of these is to NEVER have to actually use it because you recognized and avoided the hazard in the first place.;)

i am a first time wearer as well, went with the escape 15. light weight enough storage to hold some tools and a small lunch as well as my shovel. with it sinched on good i cant even hardly tell i'm wearing it

i wore the abs vario 30 all last year . great pack other than the fact it was a top loader pack . kinda sucked to grab somthing off the bottom of youre pack . This year though i just got a new bag part of the pack thats zipperd all the way around , should solve all my problems .

The nice thing about the Vario is the ability to have different size packs without having to buy multiple airbags. If you go with the Vario 15 and later decide you want a bigger pack, you can order the 30L attachment that will fit right onto the Vario base unit.

I agree , I am taking a AST1 course and a beacon course in the next couple weeks, I am new to the mountains and want to take every precaution available, last year I had a great time but i don't want to rely on my buddies I want to know for myself what is safe or not. I don't ever want to have to use my ABS pack, but it is one more safety precaution.:)

One thing you will want to check on is your size.. If you are a mid to small size body frame you will be fine.. I personally have very broad shoulders and the freeride and escapes dont fit me.. the vario fit me 10x better and more comfortable.. thats the one i'm buying.. :D
