Auto insurance without a clean record

I currently have my auto insurance through The Hartford. They had great rates when my record was clean. A year ago I got in a single vehicle wreck and got a careless driving ticket. Four months ago I got a speeding ticket. As a result my rates have sky rocketed. I checked Progressive and they were $230 every six months cheaper. Who else should I check? Just guessing I am not the only one without a clean record. :face-icon-small-hap Where are you guys finding the best rates? Thanks.

I insure the vehicles under my wife's name, that way they have the full coverage that is required by state law.

If you aren't required to have FC (assuming you own your vehicles outright) then go through Dairyland and buy the broad coverage. I pay $236 every 6 months and am covered under any vehicle I drive. LEGALLY.
I'm also guessing that you have to submit an SR22?

My record is just speeding tickets. No accidents, no DUIs or DWAIs. I just drive fast. According to the Liberal POS judge I am a danger to society.

If your in montana you can call my office 1800 823 2767 and we can quote you through all our companies and see what we can do for you just ask for Alica or Tim

Be careful on that PJ. Look at the fine print, and it will say you have coverage on any vehicle you or your spouce does not own, or you do not have regular access to. Also it only covers the bare minium liability limits. Not much coverage IMO!

In Colorado you are required to have anyone that lives at your address on your policy. If you don't they are not covered if they crash your vehicle. They usually require that you have the person sign something saying they won't drive your vehicle, if they won't sign then you will have to add them and pay.

I checked around quite a bit and ended up with State Farm. They were by far the cheapest (couple hundred every 6 months cheaper than anyone else). They already had my sled insurance, so that simplifies things as well. Ended up being literally HALF what The Hartford was charging me. My agent said it was because my credit score is so good that it offset the accident and citations. Sure glad I shopped around.

Having a blemished record will increase your rates anywhere. You might think you’re getting a better deal with Progressive but you need to read the fine print. On the other hand, if you combine car and home insurance, you’ll probably get a discount with The Hartford and earn loyalty later on too.

I ended up going with State Farm, not Progressive. I take it you are a Hartford agent? I can't go with the AARP Hartford insurance that you linked to because I am not over 50. Are you saying State Farm's coverage will not be as good as The Hartford's? What should I be looking for in the fine print?

I don't own my house, just rent, but I did combine my renter's insurance with my auto insurance and received a large enough discount that the renter's insurance is essentially free.

FWIW, Progressive has been the cheapest for us. I usually check every couple years and noone beats them on rates. I always have a couple tickets (speeding) hanging on to my record.
I haven't checked State Farm or Allstate though as I've had a bad experience with both of them. Not that they're any worse than any other company. Kinda like sleds, they all suck at some point in time, jsut a matter of which one is worse on any given day.
I haven't ever had a major claim with Progressive, but I know people who have and they've been happy with the service. For the couple fender bender claims over the years they've been real good. With no deductible now and dirt cheap boat insurance for a very good stated value policy.
Got hit by a guy with Progressive last year, banged up my rear bumper. He had Progressive too. They looked over the truck and cut me a check the next day for $800 for a $400 bumper and stated on the payout that if I found any other damage that this was not to be considered a final payment and they would cover more. Pretty standup if you ask me.

From what I got from the meeting this morning is that all the rates in Montana are going up due to the weather we have had in the past couple years. Just keep you eyes out I would love to help with anything I can.

If you are eligible check with USAA, I pay less for 3 vehicles and 2 drivers than I did for one driver and 2 rigs and one driver through Farm Bureau, which was about the same as the quotes I got from Geico, Progressive and Farmer's.

Progressive is significantly cheaper for my motorcycle though.

check with foremost for sleds and bikes they are killing progressives pricing in montana

I had Foremost last year on my turbo m8 and this year State Farm beat them by $200ish. I guess they (state farm) just changed something about how they insure high performance sleds. Same amount of coverage and same deductible as Formost too.
