ATV throttle?

Anyone ever give this any thought? I was thinking you wouldn't have to open up your hand to use it, the way you do with a sled throttle.

Thoughts?

Firt hurdle would be the safety/timing switch. This, is something a ATV does not have, yet a snowmobile needs.

I like the idea and it would probably feel more natural, at least to me

Kill switch? ( same thing right? ) I was thinking I could wire up to a tether and mount seperately. Would this work or am I missing something?

I'm guessing there is a reason the don't use them, I'm wondering if it ices up. I'm sure you will let us know

The Polaris atv throttles also have a kill function in them like the sleds. I cant imagine it wolud be too hard to figure out how to wire it in.

i have ridin lots of quads in -20 -30 from what i can remember no ice ups. i belivie snowmobile throttles were sappose to be comfortable for long rides with the old snowmobile ergonomics. with rider forward/im almost always standing i feel a thumb throttle will be better. but i will let you know forsure once the snow fly's

No Heat???

Try it and give us your full report after a long night ride in freezing temps.

Not that I'm doubting it would work, I just like to have feeling in my thumb.
Make sure you use a very light grease inside the housing. Thick grease will freeze up and then you've got problems!

Is there really that much difference between the two?
You have to open up your palm to use the ATV set-up too it looks like???

I only use my thumb with my sled throttle already unless I'm riding a long trail to get back to the truck or something. Then I kind of use more of the heel of my thumb.

I must be missing something here.

I keep my throttle loose so I can spin it on the bars.
When I am standing I use my index finger over the bar to throttle.
Like a trigger. I also "PINCH" it with my thumb and index finger.
Its nice to put your throttle where ever you want it at the time.
I use a little grip tape on it to stick to my glove better and not get slippery.

I quad a lot but I wouldnt put that throttle on my sled.

as for heat you can buy simple thumb heaters same as whats on your bars. second i realize it wouldn't work for everyone i ride mountains day time only. a night ride back in the prairie's, sure might not be so good.
