ATV ride, 2,700 miles round trip UT to SD and back!

A retired Army fellow is currently riding his highway prepped Cam AM ATV from Utah, to eastern South Dakota, Watertown, SD.
Interesting blog, pics and youtube video.
He is also a amateur radio operator, looking for anadventure after retirement and keeping in contact with mobile HF (High Frequency) ham radio equipment.

I found this out by checking into a amateur radio (ham) forum board today, and found his post.
Being a radio op myself since age 12, back in the stone age 1954. :D
Very cool.

His destination is about 125 miles from my location. :beer;

You Tube video:
Starts out not seeming like the right one, but just wait about 45 seconds.

His post from www.qrz.com
"There seems to be some confusion about how I will accomplish my 2700 mile ATV ride. In short, I will travel from Park City UT to Watertown SD AND RETURN. I have thus far travel 1430 miles from Park City to Watertown. Typically this is more miles than via Interstate, but I am taking highways in route and sight seeing in the Black Hills as well. I am currently in Watertown and will depart on the 26th - passing through Pierre SD and on to Devils Tower, then head due south into Utah. I attempt to make contact every night on HF 20M. A special Discovering America QSO card will be sent to all contacts. Visit Youtube and search for: 2700 Mile ATV Adventure for video or log onto: discovering-america.blogspot.com. Hope this helps clarify the logistics. Thanks KE7WIU "

Mule? Here's something you could do. You're "radio active."

Maybe I ought to take my Grizzly for an excursion, huh?

bah, do it on two wheels :D

Does look like fun though.

I should jump back on amateur bands again. After working on radios all night, the last thing I want to do when I get home is pick up anohter mic. Hobbies need to stay hobbies.

Yeah, same scenario for me.
I taught electronics, and specialized in business, industrial, professional , and law enf'mt two-way radio repair and installation for most of 37 years.
Last 20 years involved in cellular network switching and RF sites.

Hard to play with radio's at home. :(
Since I've been retired, I'm getting more active, and brushing up on my CW, copying 20 WPM again.:p

Always wanted to do CW, but I think digital's really where i'd have fun. For now I'll stick with VHF/UHF :p

Like I don't have enough expensive hobbies already

I read about it in last nights paper. I happen to live in Watertown. Would be a cool trip.

I've been to Watertown many times, to the lure of Burghardts amateur radio and electronic store. Every major piece of radio gear I own I have bought there, but they decided to hang up sales about 6 mo. ago.

Was a sad day.

Mule says ride that guy's route on 2 wheels, but people do that alll the time, especially going to Sturgis.
The 4 wheeler is truly unique.

Yep, losing burghardts was a bummer, they are still open but strictly do repair now. You probably have driven by the place I work at on your way to burghardts...Team Electronics, I have been there for 10 years now.
