Looking into getting a new pair of skates and its been a while since my last new pair like 10yrs looking into the rbk 12k, Bauer vapor x5.0 fit is comparable for my foot the rbk is a little better fit but its not a composite boot either and I am afraid if it breaks down it will be too sloppy. and nobody likes that just looking for some additional info.
I have been playing since I was 8 and have played juionrs although that was a while back but I would consider myself an advanced player. Skating roughly 2-3 times a week on average.

Thanks in advance
Brian

Not that up to speed on the latest skate technology.

In other news tho the NHL strike is really beginning to piss me off.

Brian, I am 51 and have been a CCM guy all my life. I currently use the CCM Pro Tacks and love them. The convenience of removing the runner with two screws and not having to remove the entire holder is super. The second pair of skates I have are newer and they are the CCM U+ 07 but I actually use the Pro Tacks. I believe the current CCM top of the line skate is the CCM CL (Crazy Lite). They are REALLY nice.

i dont like the RBK, Graf, Nike, Easton. My kid who plays high school hockey here in Missoula has the Easton skates and they are a piece of chit as the rivets have rotted out twice. Not fun when this happens in Cranbrook.
With regard to boot "breakdown" i have not seen any of the newer skates break down in the boot, tongue or eyelets. They all seem to be pretty bullet proof almost to the point of being too stiff and too uncomfortable when they are new.

One thing i have seen a few times over the last few years is the actual steel runner completely breaking. Real unusual but I've seen it lately.

My daughter has Bauer and they are superb. Bauer is my second choice. Both Bauer and CCM offer great fit, support, protection, durability and good resale value. One last item...the Bauer and CCM skates look cool. So if you suck you can still look cool.

As for sticks, my kids use the Easton and Warrior sticks while my weapon of choice is the CCM U+ CL Tavares model. Have 4 of them....totally off limits to the kids.

Cant go wrong with the Bauer or CCM skates. Good luck.

Skates brand loyalty is like sled brand loyalty. I've tried a lot of different brands Bauer, Mission, Reebok,CCM, Easton. Currently using easton but I've replaced the rivets twice and they are likely in need of some attention this year. If I buy new skates I'll be looking at Bauer or graf. Try on a couple fo pairs and make sure the shop bakes the skates. Most skates can be baked 3-4 times to help with the break in period.

Do yourself a favor and don't pinch pennies on skates .... If you're playing rec league, there is one thing that benefits your rec league enjoyment: skates.

I bought a pair of CCM U-Pros and had them baked, then went one step further and had a custom orthodic formed to my feet to give me the correct arch support.

I swear, I should have done this back when I was playing in highschool .... but moral of the story is, you don't need $500 breezers an whatnot in rec league .... but a good pair of skates goes a long way towards enjoying what you're doing.

Thanks Fellas,

I am headed to bozeman this weekend for some other things and am gonna look over there. I currently have a pair of Bauer Supreme 7000 that I like but they are getting old and need new steels at least for this season. so rather than through money at something that needs to be replaced just bite the bullet and get a new set.
As it sits I am leaning towards the bauer supreme 60 or 70 and got a line on a pair of grafs as well. Gonna try both of them on and see how they work

As for lumber I really like eastons the s15 in the ingla pattern is awesome but holy **** they are spendy I got a set of three begining of last season and I am down to one!! and I don't think i am that hard on em. might have to go back to wood. how are the warrior sticks have not used one are they priced pretty close?

If you make it to Missoula check in with either Traver or Matt at the Missoula Maulers Hockey Stop in the Mall. Knowledgable people with great selection of new and used skates.

I have a tournament up there at the end of the month but I would like to get a a pair and have them kinda broken in by then. but if not I will check them out for sure

Do Daoust skates still exist? I remember back in the day those were the creme de la creme. How about Microns? I had a pair of Micron 10-90s...I think that may still be the pair I have. Man, I can't believe how long is has been since I skated.:face-icon-small-sad

not really that I know of but you are really dating yourself with the microns. Ha that being said I did have a pair of 10-50 you had to have the power clip! thats some great memories

Update

Ended up with a pair of CCMs u 10 of all the skates i tried they fit the best. gonna take a while to get them broken in but i am on my way. Took the kids to public skate yesterday put about hour and 45 on them. I think they are gonna be a great skate. thanks for all the replies

I've always found that skates are like shoes, sleds, anything else you would like to compare them too. Technology is advanced in every piece of the market. Each company is gonna have their own little niche that might draw you in. Besides that, as far as price-value they are all comparable. Hockey is DEFINITELY a sport that you pay for what you get. I'm a Graf guy personally, but that's because I grew up with my whole family wearing them. Had a pair of RbK's when they first came out and they were solid, but did break down faster than I thought they should. It was their first year though, I'm pretty sure their quality has improved.
