We now have Better Boards for Apex. Several Yamaha Apex sets are currently in use and the ride reports are stellar! Had concerns with this application because of the running board cooler, but this is actually a very straight install and super clean application. I think it's going to turn out to be one of our "BETTER" performing products.

Check out this latest example:

Julie Marquart from Team Thunderstruck Film's MC Express turbo Apex with full Timbersled front and back suspension, Boss seat, and the latest and greatest from BETTER BOARDS in custom red powder.

$$$

How much Rob ? this is exactly what I've been waiting for. Now I wont have an excuse for fallin of the sled on the deep pow days:D

I wonder if there's much difference between the RX-1 and Apex original boards...I really need one for the RX-1....I keep falling of it...LOL

Yes this is an awesome modification to your Apex. (as well as every other sled make that we offer a model on) Go to www.snowmobilebetterboards.com click products click Apex #0150 either natural $175 or black $225..or call 208-724-6677 ask for Rob and we are now offering coated boards in...easy squeezy...all products in stock and shipping daily. We manufacture about 300 per week so there is rarely a back order situation.

NEW AWESOME WEBSITE ABOUT TO LAUNCH....TOLL FREE NUMBER WITH A REAL HUMAN TO TAKE PHONE IN ORDERS AND ANSWER QUESTIONS...ADDTIONAL TECH SUPPORT BY YOURS TRUELY.

All Better Boards are cut then grained then bent for a more perfect finish plus the graining enhances the durability of our finish coatings. NOBODY CAN MATCH OUR QUALITY, FIT, FINISHES, OR PERFORMANCE.

COLOR CHOICES without custom re-tool upcharge (additional $35)

yamaha (like) blue
red (matches Holz Racing Products suspensions)
black (our proprietary hardcoat)
clear (super hard)
untreated natural...for guys who do their own custom powders or are very budget consious.

WE ALSO PUT OUR COATINGS ON SUSPENSION RAILS AND OTHER MISC SLED PARTS...LOOKS EXCEPTIONAL AND SHEDS SNOW AND ICE. Our factory test sled has the new ALPHA-X rear skid from HOLZ Racing Products and it carries at least 20LBS less ice buildup on the rails. HUGE HUGE BENEFITS in performance battling weight buildup.

COATED BOARDS WORK SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER AT SHEDDING SNOW AND ICE

Bull email me the footbed specs on your 1 ton and I'll see if anything in our files will work. Most likely the APEX will be right there. Matching the tabs on the cooler is a trick so they are under material to rivet too on the Better Boards. Bet it will work!

PHOTOGRAPHIC IN FIELD, HEADS UP, SIDE BY SIDE, PERFORMANCE TEST...SAME SLED SAME HILL SAME TURNS SAME EVERYTHING EXCEPT ONE HAS BETTER BOARDS...ONE DOES NOT. WHICH DO YOU WANT?

Could you please let me now what you find about the boards to RX1.

I also fall of all the time:face-icon-small-win

Like Rob said... very easy install, straight forward and took less then 2 hours. I'd say less if we wouldn't have had the beer...:beer;:beer; Julie can't wait to hit the snow this weekend. I have some pic's of the install and will update when I hit the office after the weekend.

After yesterday in the Trinities Juli says these are a must have product for the Apex. Much better traction and little to no snow on the rails...

Now I need a pair and I have to get the turbo on my sled. Go figure... hers has all the cool stuff (turbo, Better Boards, Boss Seat, TimberSled Stuff) and I'm on the stock (light weight):face-icon-small-win Apex.

Scott glad to hear it! Such a sweet sweet looking buggy. Glad she likes the performance as well as the appearance. ACTION SHOTS PLEASE!

I'll have your APEX Better Boards custom coated in a couple days...so you don't feel so left out....we can have them installed before the next big storm.

I think these Apex BetterBoards would fit on an RX1 tunnel if you trimmed the outboard edge of the BetterBoards to match the RX1 tunnel taper. I believe all the forward running board heat exchanger attachment points are the same for the two sleds. Put two of these skoters side by side and check.

Bought a set this year and in retrospect, should have been the first thing I ever did to my Apex. Easy to install (couple hours) and don't have to constantly kick snow.

OK I have an RX 1 located and we will see about the trim angle change and report in asap.

Going to ride that red sled in a couple days...if she'll let me! It's yummy...all this R and D and customer smoozing is sure TOUGH WORK :D

Any special tools needed?

Used a cut off air tool with a small 3" disk and a drill to remove the coolers. We also used a small file to clean up the sharp edges.

We used an air body saw ($13 from harbor freight)... an air grinder with a 3" cut off wheel (for grinding and cutting)..a vice grips for grabbing rivets...an air drill with a very good quality 3/16 drill bit for removal of existing factory rivets...a marking pen...some plastic clamps...beer...air rivet puller..phillips tip screw driver...allen wrench and 7/16 wrench for rear bracket removal (was aftermarket)...a spring punch for hole marking...brake cleaner for cleaning the top of the coolers....and some band aids for my fingers. All Better Board installations require a minor loss of blood and knuckle skin (at least they do for me)...oh ya and ear plugs if there youngsters about.

Yamaha Apex Installation Instructions

Place Better Board on the existing running board as a cutting template. There is an obvious fitment position from the front footwell accessory to the rear bracket. Clamp and trace with marking pen your cut path around the front cleat positions (cut out one large hole). Trace another cut path round the rear cleat section (see cut out photo). Remove Better Board for cutting and future install.
Drill out all rivets associated to the running board cooler on the foot bed. Remove any suspension bolts or rivets from the running board at the rear suspension bracket. Drill out outer extrusion support rivets. Keep the tabs in place as that is your guide hole for all installation and rivets. You have two choices here. One is to precisely cut along your marked path with a narrow cutting wheel. This method requires extreme precision as the coolers are immediately under the running board and can be damaged easily if cut through. We found that if you scored the running board aluminum along your cut path on the cooling areas that you could bend and work that metal until it breaks off clean and does not damage the cooling system and doesn’t require complete removal of the coolers. The preferred method is to drill out the rivets and completely remove each cooler prior to cutting. Follow the same procedure for the rear cut out space.
(CUT OUT A SLIGHTLY LARGER THEN THE WINDOW PATTERN OF THE BETTER BOARD SO THAT METAL DOES NOT SHOW THROUGH THE WINDOWS UPON INSTALLATION. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CLEAN UP WITH THE COOLERS IN PLACE SO A MINIMUM OF 1/8” LARGER CUT OUT IS PREFERRED)

Re-install the coolers if they have been removed for the cutting phase.

You will notice that there are a couple cooler tabs that show through the windows of the Better Boards. Mark and carefully remove those tabs. Keep the others in place for riveting the coolers to the Better Boards. Hammer down each star cleat to flat and create as flat of a working surface as possible.
Position your Better Board and clamp into place. Drill back up through each tab both outer extrusion and cooling from the bottom up into the Boards. Place and set a rivet as you go. It is recommended to drill and install one rivet at a time so that no metal bunching or shifting occurs. Remember that there is a larger plastic panel attachment screw for the outer front connection that requires a larger drill hole and some aftermarket tunnels have additional fasteners to deal with. Once you have completed the rivet process along the foot making certain to connect all remaining cooler tabs to the Better Boards you can drill and rivet the raised L support to the tunnel.

OK.... actual side by side Yamaha Apex Better Boards model test and visual results.....sled one blue Yamaha Apex no Better Boards...sled two red Yamaha Apex with Better Boards. Ran simultaniously side by side for exact comparitive results.

WHICH WOULD YOU WANT?
